DIY invites with no outer envelope

Hi girls, i got ver cute invites which I love but they only came with one envelope, i know that most professionally done invites have two. Should I buy outer envelopes to make them "prettier" or just leave it?

Re: DIY invites with no outer envelope

  • You can't have an inner unless you have an outer so the 1 envelope that came with your invites is the outer envelope, not the inner.  Regardless, the inner envelope isn't usually "pretty" at least from what I've seen. It's more functional and is used to list all the names of the people invited and keeps the invite and all inserts together. So if it were me the decision of purchasing an additional envelope would come down to if I was OK with my outer envelopes reading "mr. smith & guest" or "mr. & mrs. smith and Emily", etc.
  • It's not really necessary.  Just make sure the outer envelope makes it clear for whom the invite is intended.
  • I bought DIY invites and I was in the same situation. I did not buy the extra envelopes. What I did was what one of the other knotties suggested, make sure the envelope is labeled for the intended guests. People always toss out the invitations after they have served their purpose anyway. Save money and trees :-)
