How much did you pay for...

...your hair trial and what is your dayof hair costing? Just curious. Also, what's a good percentage to tip for these services? Thanks.

Re: How much did you pay for...

  • my trial was $65 and day of should be $95. I tipped $15. I don't know that percentage, but i thought it was fair. Usually 20% if you're really happy, 15% for good and 10% for poor because honestly, they stilled performed a service so still give a little something.

  • My trial for hair and makeup was $40. Day of for both is $70. The girl that I'm using is on her own (not attached to a company), so I didn't tip since shes keeping it all. That's standard and if they are not on their own then 20% is recommended or as pp said.

Both my trial and dayof hair styling are $65 each. I usually tip 20% because the woman that is doing my hair has cut/styled my hair since I was a toddler, and she always does a beautiful job. I would wait and see how satisfied you are with the service, but I think 10-20% is the norm.

My hair trial was $65 and my day of will be $100.  I will tip her $20 because she has been doing my hair forever.

  • Mine comes as a package....trial hair/makeup and day of hair/makeup on location for $190. I'm going to tip her $25/$30.
  • Trial was $50, and day of will be $100. I'm paying for all the girls to get theirs done too, so I'm planning on paying another $470 the day of (ouch).

  • My trial was $30, and day of will be $60.  I plan on giving her a probably $25 tip, even though she typically refuses tips (not only refused my tip during the trial, but put it back in my purse!), but she's coming in on her day off just to do my  hair, so she's getting her dang tip because she's awesome and will do a great job.  lol

  • My make-up trial was 50 and for the day off it will be 150 for airbrush, my hair trial was 50 and the day of it will be 150.  They will be coming to the venue where i'll be getting ready the morning of and I will most likely tip them between 15% to 20%, I also didn't tip at trial since both ladies own their business but I will for the day of.

  • Thanks, this is helpful.  My mom has always done my hair, so I wasn't sure of what to expect since someone else will be doing it for the wedding.

As far as makeup...I'm cancelling that.  My trial was $75 and day-of was supposed to be $150; bridesmaids/MOG are $75 each.  I had to pay half of the total for my deposit (so $225), but then it turns out only 1 of the 3 were going to be able to pay their makeup.  I wasn't super impressed with my trial and I don't have an extra $225 laying around so I'm just going to stock up on Ulta stuff...unfortunately, the contract says the deposit is non-refundable.  =(  Sad day.
  • My trial for both hair and makeup was $60, and I tipped $15. On the day of, it will be $80, and I plan on tipping $20. She is also coming to us at my grandma's motel room, so she is charging $10 extra per person, which I will be covering. So I'm paying $150 total.

  • My hair and makeup trial was $70 each and I didn't tip on that.  My day of is $205 total and I plan to tip 20% for entire bridal party.
  • My make up is done free but i will tip her she is so awesome and my hair is free my sister does hair and I am getting extentions and they was $230 so that equal out to everything i would have paid.
  • You're all going to hate me, but my MUA/hair stylist is a good friend & business partner, so my hair/makeup trial was free and she's only charging me $75 for hair and $25 for makeup on the day-of. Since I've known her since she was born & she's a guest, she'll be there to touch me up the whole night :)
  •  My hair trial was free but the makeup trial was $20 just due to the fact of having to buy airbrush makeup supplies. I ended up having her do some blonde highlights too at my trial, so with everything my trial ended up costing $80 and the day of will be $100.
