Re: Cool trends

  • The color orange! Personally, I'm not a fan of orange- especially when it's paired with neon pink or bright purple, but that's just my opinion. I think orange can look really pretty when it's toned down and more subdued in a fall wedding. But I really don't like these in-your-face, I-am-bright-orange theme that's seemed to get popular lately.

I just have a feeling it's going to be like the avocado green and shag carpets from the seventies. I think our kids will look back and go, "Mom! What were you THINKING?"

But, that's just my opinion. If you like orange, and want it in your wedding, then all the power to you! My personality could NOT pull it off!

</div><div>Haha! I feel the same way about orange! When 2 of BMs went to Davids Bridal and tried on some dresses, the samples for the ones they liked were in eggplant purple and bright tangerine orange! So it looked kind of ridiculous but we took pics since they might end up picking those dresses. For some reason whenever I show someone they think I have changed my wedding colors to purple and orange! I still can't make my grandma understand, so every time we talk wedding she says something like, "I don't understand why you would want orange..." I just kind of laugh and ignore her. She's just going to think I have bad taste for a while I guess.</div>

  • hahaha, i love bright colours and cupcakes!

in fact i would love orange and hot pink cupcakes!

i'm about the least traditional person around so anything trend that makes weddings different and interesting is cool to me.

  • Ha, yay for some orange love! I don't know orange has been such a taboo color for so long - if done right, it looks great!

I think my favorite trend is the individual cakes on guests' tables. FI's cousin got married last summer and they had smaller cakes that served 8-10 people at each table, and each were different flavors so if you wanted, you could even swap pieces with the next table over. We would've done this ourselves but it's rather pricey if you're having a large wedding.
  • I really like the trend of having women as groomsmen. I think it's super cute when she wears a black version of the bridesmaid dresses too.

I also like it when blended families say a marriage vow and a family vow.  I think it shows how strong the family is.

I like interactive cocktail hours too.  Wine and cheese tastings are becoming more popular, and I think it's really considerate to give your guests something to do in that time.

Let me just tell you, I was in an orange and white wedding. I had to wear an orange dress, oranges shoes and *drum roll please* an orangish lipstick!  That bride is now one my bridesmaids, I think she is frightened what I might make her wear out of retaliation, haha.
  • Orange lipstick!?! Can you please post a picture haha!

  • We're having a fall wedding and I noticed about a year ago my colors were very "wintery" (blue, white, and silver) so I decided to add little spurts of orange to make it a little more fall.  I'm having mango callas and orange roses in my bouquet and all the centerpieces are 3 mango callas submerged in tall vases of water.  I always hear "I love the blue and orange color combination" whenever I show someone my idea binder.  I think a little bit of orange as an accent is okay and can look really good as long as you don't go overboard and make it one of the main colors
  • my orange is flowers only..  my wedding is in sept. so its sort of fall then... i lovee my color combo... the girls have turquiose dresses, guys have brown tuxes and my flowers are orange and white roses with some orange calas.. and the girls are going to have orange flowers for their bouquets and the guys have little orange boutineers.. i love it! soo excited for my colors
  • I think a fun trend that has been popping up is the candy bar!  I plan on having one as well.  I'm not sure how new this is, how long it's been around - but I do think it's a great idea and that guests really enjoy it.
  • feathers! i love how they are put in the flowers and adds some tecture and draws the eye.  We are using peacock feathers super excited lol
"The perfect marriage begins when each partner believes they got better than they deserve."
  • I like Cupcakes. They're cute and fun and esp if there's minis guests can have more than one flavor.

I also love orange, my colors are blue dreses with orange florals and so far everything is looking wonderful! Not gonna lie, its super bright, and I get that its definitely not for everyone, but it fits me and my fiancee. PLUS orange is my favorite color. Ever.

    :D

Photobooths and photo guestbooks are sweet, too, we're doing both and it just adds its own unique flair to the event. Love it!

  • Candy bar for sure! Everyone loves candy =)

  • HA! I love that so many people are bashing orange! I am using orange. But the orange in our wedding is a little more subdued. Our main colours are Black and Green. We are using Orange as an accent colour. The flowers mainly, and some decor. For trends I love cupcakes my FI doesn't he wants cake, so we are doing a different trend that is just starting called cake balls. It works perfect. We are doing one tier of cake then cake balls. Yumm! The other major trend that we are using is feathers. I love feathers, so I incorporated them into my and the bridesmaids hair pieces, and they are going to in my bouquet.

  • I love the idea of having a candy buffet!  I also love the damask trend too!
  • To me Orange is a fun, summery color!

I just got married three weeks ago, and

used orange in my flowers- gerber daises, roses and (my favorite) tiger lilies!  I popped them against a dark, navy blue dress, so as to not make the color palette too busy.

  • Eep.  I love orange but no one who is too young to remember WWII should be wearing orange lipstick.

This might be old news, but I think the photobooths with the fake mustaches and boas and silly hats are really cool and I wish I had thought of it.
  • Not sure that this is a trend but I thought it was cool…when I got married instead of favors we had hot chocolate, doughnuts & gourmet flavored candy canes for our guests as they were leaving (it was during the holidays)

  • At my wedding we using a photobooth but this booth has magnets that come out instead of a photo. The magnet is business card size and it is in black and white. I am using it as my favors. My mom saw it at a bridal show... I am pretty excited... hopefully it will be something new and fun for my guests.
  • 2 Pears - I love seasonal, edible favors!  I think mini pumpkin pies, caramel apples, hot cocoa mixes, fruit baskets, and summer pies are fabulous. I wish I would have thought about it for my favors!  I also really like how brides in general are embracing the season they are getting married in.  Some of my favorite details are winter fur wraps and pumpkin centerpieces.

  • Sorry, I lost all of my pictures I had from that wedding when my old computer crashed. In her defense it probably wasn't this bright orange that most people are thinking, it was a brownish orange. But not everyone can pull off that shade of lipstick. To top it off she bought one tube and we all had to use it!, luckily I knew all of the girls in the wedding pretty well or I would have protested that grossness.

I don't have beef with orange in a wedding, I think it can be really pretty when done well and in moderation, haha.
  • I have really enjoyed weddings where the bridesmaids wear different style dresses in the same color or color scheme. I tried to get my bridesmaids to pick out different dresses, but weirdly enough they all look great in the same style so that was a no-go for our wedding. The trend of the groomsmen wearing colorful socks is cool too!

I also like it when the wedding ceremony is long enough to give me a chance to cry. I have been to several wedding ceremonies lately that have been really short and I don't think that it gives the guests time to really get involved. The more your guests are involved in the ceremony the more they feel they are there to support the couple, not just observe the couple.

I'm a photo nut, so I love the photo booth trend that is going on. I'm all about the community that has gathered to celebrate you as a couple, so anything that can help them feel more involved or that you can look back on to remember who was there for you on your special day has my vote!

Lastly I'm a cake lover and I love that couples are getting more nontraditional with their cake flavors! We are having two layers of lemon lime cake and one huckleberry flavored layer!

  • Tangerine Bride here also! Here's are my colors!

Coolest trend I've seen is those Moo cards with an engagement picture on them, and then on the back it has the information for the website to upload pics that the guests take. WAY better than disposable cameras!
  • We are planning on having a breakfast bar for dinner! We will have mimosas (champagne and oj), screwdrivers, and bloody mary's instead of beer and wine! We are having a coffee bar, too - complete with flavored syrups, baileys, and amaretto!

[QUOTE]I'm one of the obnoxious orange brides! Ha ha... hopefully not really! My BMs are wearing black with peek-a-boo skirts in either Orange or Pink, and they are carrying orange and pink gerbera's. I LOVE bright colors! Don't hate! :P  I think the best trend is the candy bar favor! Edible favors are the best... in all honestly how often do you use that bottle stopper?  I'm also a big fan of the photo booth... I wish we could afford one at our wedding, it'd be a lot of fun!

For a photo booth you could always just have a white sheet pinned on a wall and get some  cool props from a dollar store or make them your self. All you would need is someone to take the pictures then. This is how we are doing it and one of my fiances cousins is going to take the pics as our wedding gift. Then you can upload them onto a free website. (not sure which one we are using yet) and the guests can look at them there and get them printed off if they choose to. This wouldn't take long or much money to complete. There is still time left for you!

I agree with you.  My FI and I have chosen to do a unity ceremony that unites us as a family.  The ceremony states that our family will support us just as we choose to support each other and that our family is now one.  My kids will be involved in this and my FMIL, my FI and my Mom all love the idea.  It is about both of you becoming one but the moment that happens, you have a son and he is your family too.

So that's my favorite trend.  I also am having my shoes match my girls accents on their dres...which by the way, is tangerine orange! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />  Their dresses are brown but we're having a spring wedding so we're accenting the orange more than anything.

I like the idea of more than just cake at the reception.  Me, myself, I can't wait to dive into a piece of raspberry filled white cake but I know my son, he doesn't like cake so we're having pies and brownies as well.

Yes he does. I love his son dearly and he has no doubts that we are becoming a family. But like I said, I believe that a wedding is about a marriage which in my eyes is different than a family. Just my personal belief of course. Not meant to offend anyone.

EDIT: Also, just as a side note, I won't be saying vows to my natural born children when they are born so wouldn't it reason that by saying a set of vows to my new step son I would be setting him apart from my own children? Just playing a bit of a devil's advocate here.
  • Well I am kicking tradision in it's butt, My colours are Orange and Cherise pink, and as for brides maid I have male
  • Yep I definetly agree that the bright orange is a fad, and generations to come will be saying what were you thinking???  Its like perms and leg warmers, it was very modern at the time and very dated for years to come.

But hey if its you then go for it.

and BRIANBRENDA what in the world are you thinking asking your guests to wear a specific colors???? that is ridiculous.  You have no authority to request them to wear Black and white. and if I were a guess I would say hell no!

  • We're having bridesmen, an uneven wedding party, bocce ball during cocktail hour, candy centerpieces (centerpiece and favor in one!), and a dessert spread instead of cake!

Also, the girls are all wearing different dresses in the same length and color - I'm SO glad this trend is catching on everywhere.  I'd much rather have my girls looking happy and comfortable in a dress they picked, than see them looking "identical" in the same dress that looks different on them all anyway.  It's really hard to find one dress to flatter all body types, and there's not need to!
