Reception Distance?

I absolute love a reception venue that is 50 minutes away from our ceremony site. FI says its to far to expect our guests to drive, I disagree. Opinions?

Yes, it's too far. If I were a guest, I would skip the ceremony or the reception.

Agreed that it's too far.  I generally think 30 minutes is the max.

I agree with PPs. Since most of the evening is spent at the reception, I'd look for a ceremony site closer to the place you want to have the reception.

The ceremony will be taking place in the church my FI's family attends, it was his one request and the church will not marry us off premises. Other then that we do not have many venues in the area that are in our budget. We also have to have limited time slots when we can be married so our ceremony will most likely be taking place earlier. I would like to invite all guests to both the ceremony and reception but wouldn't expect them to go to both, but I don't know how to address it? I don't want to just invite people to the reception without giving them the option of attending the ceremony.

If they care enough to want to be a part of your day, the drive won't even matter to them! : those who don't come probably weren't going to anyway. That's how I think of it!
