Date Change

Has anyone ever change their wedding date and venue after booking a venue/reception?

We were going to have a desination wedding next May 2013.  Everything was booked, and save-the-dates were sent out.  And due to family financial issues.  We decide to have our wedding local and extend the date a few months to have more time to cooridinate and save more money,   How did you do it and how did you send new save-the-dates?

Re: Date Change

  • A friend of mine changed her date. They just sent notes explaining that the date had been changed and providing the new information.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • If you have a new date/location already, then send out new save-the-dates immediately.   People may have already started making travel arrangements to attend your destination wedding, and those plans may or may not be refundable once they are made.

If you don't have a new date/location, then I would send out cards and/or make phone calls to everyone on the STD list IMMEDIATELY to inform them of the change (tell them that due to unforseen circumstances you will have to reschedule your wedding for a different location/later date -- no need to explain your reason).

  • You need to send out cards ASAP.  Some people might have already booked flights and hotels for your DW.   If they did, let's hope they can get a refund.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
