Sand, unity candle, what else?

I'm not a fan of the unity candle and fianc isn't a fan of the sand....what else can we do? Do we even have to do something like that or can we just go without? I really appreciate any ideas!

I would say that a wedding ceremony itself is the most unifying thing you can do.  You don't need another ritual to represent the unification more, ya know?

We didn't do either.  We didn't think it was necessary.
  • We are doing a wine unity ceremony. Mixing of white and red wine to represent to lives coming to gether as one. Google wine ceremony for a better idea of what I'm talking about :)
  • You can certainly go without. FI and I are doing a salt covenant. It's fitting for us since cooking is a big part of our lives.
  • FI and I are doing a wine box/time capsul thing in our ceremony. We're writing letters to each other the week of our wedding about why we're getting married etc and they're being put in a box to be opened on our anniversary. It will be mentioned in our ceremony.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!

<div>we are also doing this. the box can be opened also in case of emergency, each couple goes to their own corner of the room with the love letter and glass of wine and remembers why they love each other and got married :)</div>

Go without.  Your statement of intention and vows take care of it all.
  • We've chosen to do a flower ceremony.
On the 'altar' will be o\a central vase with yellow roses (the first flowers he bought me) and next to that on either side will be one individual yellow rose representing each of us.  On all the roses we have attached a tag with a simpl saying or a word that represents a wish/hope we want for our marriage (children, laughter, travel, intimacy, etc...).  instead of pouring sand or lighting a candle we will be adding our individual roses...with funny promises (mine says I will provide the baked goods) to the central vase.
