[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Bride Sues (and wins!) Over Faulty Wedding Dress : I would think having the bride try on the dress before she left would have shown that, unless she did and it worked fine.  That's something that was never clearly stated one way or the other.  But if it the zipper worked properly at the time she picked up the dress, then malfunctioned at the wedding, I agree that I'd be talking to the company if I were the seamstress.

It stated on the video (or article, I can't quite recall which one) that the bride picked her dress up from the seamstress 2 days prior to her wedding and the first time she put it on since the last of the alterations were done was an hour before her ceremony.

  • I don't really think it matters when or how many times she tried on the dress.  For my wedding, SIL tried on her BM dress at the bridal salon.  No issues with the zipper.  She took it to her seamstress to have it hemmed.  Tried it on at least twice at her seamstress, including when she picked it up.  No issues with the zipper.  About a week or two before my wedding, she randomly decided to try her dress on again.  The zipper broke.  (Not trying to compare this to the bride's dress, just giving an example regarding the zipper.)

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Bride Sues (and wins!) Over Faulty Wedding Dress : Yeah, I read/saw that, but I didn't know if that meant that she had tried it on when she picked it up and hadn't worn it since or that she didn't try it on at all.  I'm inclined to think the latter, but it really didn't clearly state either way.

I took it as she hadn't tried it on at her last appointment too.  I know that the zipper may not have broken at the last appointment but at least the seamstress would not have been held liable for the broken zipper.

All in all this story is a great lesson for all future brides...
    1) always try on your dress at your last fitting appointment
    2) always keep a travel sewing kit with appropriate needles and thread in an emergency bag just in case

I don't really think that the seamstress did anything wrong.  When putting in a new zipper I doubt she thought "well this one may break too."  With many things in life people just assume that things work.  I am sure the bride assumed that the replacement zipper was going to work as well.

I do think that the hotel charging the bride for the sewing assistance was a bit ridiculous.  There are just some things that you just let go and the hotel should have just looked the other way on that one.  Same with the officiant.  It doesn't seem like either of those vendors were very considerate about the issue at hand and were just acting greedy.  Sh$t happens and sometimes you just have to roll with it.

As for her not being able to pee the entire time, I still call BS on that.  She definitely could have hiked her dress up to squat on a toilet.
