Passport/name change question

My FI and i are planning on going on a honeymoon somewhere where you need a passport. I am working on filling out the application now. I am planning to take his last name after the wedding, but am I good to use my maiden name on the passport? How does this work??

Maiden name.  Assuming you are leaving for your honeymoon right after the wedding, you will not have time to legally change it beforehand.

If you change your name within a year of having your passport issued, you can get a new one for free.

Also, make sure you BOOK the tickets in the name that will be on your passport.   If the name on your ticket doesn't match your passport (presumably both in your maiden name since you won't have time to change it), then you will not be able to travel due to security requiremetns (or you'll be charged a hefty fee at the check-in desk to change the name on the reservation).

I'm not sure they'll make you a passport for a name that you haven't made legal, to boot.

But no worries about using a passport with your maiden name.  I live overseas and we've been married almost six months with it unchanged... I'm waiting to change it a few months before my visa expires since I unfortunately they make you get a new one completely now instead of just the page change.  (I've had my passport much longer than a year, however.)
