help needed

Ok girls...I am wondering if you can swing some ideas to me. I am adopted child who lost my adopted dad when I was nine. My real dad is living but there is no way I would want him to give me away. My adopted mom remarried and I love him in all I just dont want him to give me away. My fiancee is a E-3 in the Marine Corps. so I am trying to stay traditional. Is it a bad idea for me to be given away by my brother? I would also like ideas on wedding dresses. I am a plus size girl and like strappless dresses, yet i would like to put some red on it somewhere. I am doing this solo due to the fact he wants my day just the way I want it. His only request is that I use red, blue, and black as colors. Since red is his color the bridesmaids dresses will be red. Any more cute sugestions would be amazing :)

  • It's totally ok to be given away by your brother, as long as he's ok with it.  Alfred Angelo's "dream in color" collection has a lot of lovely dresses with splashes of color (including red).  Also you should come join us on the Plus Sized board! All the girls over there will have insight into your dress finding wishes.
It's nice that your FI wants the wedding to be just how you want it, but if you ever need planning help, don't forget that it's his wedding too, and he can't just leave you high and dry!  I get it though, my FI pretty much said that he wanted to help if I needed it, but his dream for his wedding is that it's my perfect day.

What specifically are you looking for suggestions for?
  • thanks, that was helpful...I have to use red. He has to be in his dress blues so I am not sure what else I should do. Any ideas. Oh, any ideas for wedding gifts for him?
  • Well, I don't know what else you have chosen, but as for red the dream in color could be good because then you know it will be the same red in your BM dresses and your dress.  I've always thought that black baccarra roses (really dark red) look good in red/blue weddings, but I don't know what you're thinking flower wise.

As for a wedding gift for him, base it off what he likes.  A watch or maybe a hand made pen? Just throwing out sentimentalish gifts.  I don't know him though, so no ideas of mine will be better than yours!

    When is your date?
  • I think having your brother give you away is a great idea.  If my Dad had passed, that would be the choice I made.

  • I love the idea of having your brother give you away.  What about having your adoptive mother give you away?

  • love the brother idea. you can also get a dress with a sash, red to match the bridesmaids. the bm's could wear black shoes with their red dresses.are u using all three colors or just looking for ideas. as for gifts look at what he loves doing the most, example my fi trades the stockmarket, not necessarily well but is always studying it. I'm saving to try any buy him a gold coin. they have vending machines here for them, weird. good luck
  • we are getting married next summer the date is June 15...hopefully. I am not sure how to plan this... due to the fact he is active duty I am planning this alone basically
