Wedding Day Dilemma

Hi everyone, wasn't sure about where to put this question. I have a little dilemma. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get my period a few days before the wedding. My period usually is bad (heavy and get bloated and feel sick) on days 3 and 4 (my wedding day). Does anyone know if there is a way to delay/postpone my period if I have an IUD? I can't take the pill. I was already on it and it gave me a blood clot. I was taken off of it and am not able to take any hormones now. I'm thinking I'm just going to have to deal with it. I'm just dreading having to go to the bathroom and have my sister (MOH)  hold my dress up while I change tampons :( Sorry to be graphic!

Re: Wedding Day Dilemma

  • If you're looking for an alternate form of BC, then talk to your Dr. about it, but if you're just looking to skip your period on your wedding day, I got nothing for ya.

i only know how to skip/ delay your period if you're on the pill, since i've done that before...since you're not on it, i'm not sure how you can delay it otherwise... maybe check wit your doctor, if there is a natural way to delay it...

  • There is a (small) chance that stress before the wedding could delay your ovulation and thus, change the date of your expected period, but the only way to physically control it would be to take artificial hormones.

  • Have you considered a Diva CUp or other menstrual cup?   You can go 12 hours with those.  *NOT the Instead kind that you can get at the drug store.  Those are not the same.

  • I would talk with your doctor.  If you explain how you get sick on Days 3 & 4, which they should know already.  They may be able to help you.
  • I would go talk to your doctor.

If you end up with it, order the DivaCup, I have heard wonderful things about those.
  • Get pregnant!

just kidding... there's really not a whole lot you can do unless you're on the pill but here's a few suggestions. I haven't tried any of these and I'm no doctor so take it with a grain of salt.

Try taking magnesium a while before you start and through your flow. I've heard this can help with cramping, PMS and other problems.

Cut out sugar during the 1st 3 days of your cycle. It should slow down the bleeding.

Exercise can help slow down excessive bleeding.

Drink apple cider vinegar. Apparently this one is proven to work. Use 1 tablespoon raw apple cider vinager in a large glass of water and sip through the day. If the bleeding is extra heavy drink two glasses.

You could also starve yourself the day before and drink only water. Apparently depriving your body of all nutrients can stop your period. Who woulda thunk it.

  • I would definitely ask your doctor - I am sure this is relatively common as I'm sure most brides don'y want their period on their wedding day (or their honeymoon for that matter).  If there is anything that can be done, your doctor will know!

Funny about the other comments about this being "period week" for posting.  Just this Sunday I did the math and realized I am set to get it 2 days before my wedding also, but I am on the pill so I am going to let it come a week early so I don't have it for the wedding OR the honeymoon :)

<div>Or you could just call your doctor. I think drinking only water the day before your wedding is a bad idea. Not only for you, but for your FI,parents and WP.</div>

I used to have the same thing. I was home from work for 3 days throwing up all the rest of the fun stuff. Midol extra strength got me up and moving instead of craddling my cramps and the movement helped a lot to calm everything else down a bit. I drank lots of water and ate some chocolate. It helped relax my sore back and stomach. I took Pepto for my heartburn and muscled through the rest. My best advice is find out what minimizes your syptoms of pain so you can still enjoy the day. Your doctor is the best person to ask.
