Wedding day timeline?

I'm in the process of creating our wedding day timeline, and having some issues. We have our reception starting at 6pm, and have waited on setting an official time for our ceremony until now, b/c we were considering doing a short tour with our guests around NYC to take special photos in between the ceremony and reception....and were not sure how long we wanted to plan for that. Now I'm in the process of trying to figure out how long to plan for hair and makeup, first look photos if we do them, ceremony start time, etc. I need a little guidance. I really don't know how much time to allow after the ceremony to take pics at the church.....Can anyone give me their estimated sample timeline to look at? Just need a little assistance today...I'm feeling slightly braindead...THanks!

Re: Wedding day timeline?

  • just remeber not to take to long, guests do get hungry. I hate nothing more than being invited to a wedding only to be waiting on the bride and groom and their party to get done doing "whatever". I know its your day (i'm a bride too) but we also need to keep in mind that it isn't entirely about us.... our guests should have some importance too...

just a thought... take it or leave it. :-)

I am planning for about an hour and a half between the wedding and the reception and the reception hall is 20 min away from the church. But we are offering a cocktail for our guests... that way they can start drinking and there will be some appetizers for them.
  • Our ceremony is at 5pm with cocktail hour immediately following (same venue).  We are scheduling 45 minutes for pictures.  That will leave us about 15 minutes for FI and I to have time by ourselves, before we join everyone for either the end of cocktail hour or the beginning of dinner.  We haven't decided yet.

  • Mine is a bit of a mess. There is one on TK if you search.

photog arrives at 3:30 for family pics
    Ceremony is at about 4:30

Cocktail hr immediately afterward (same venue)

    6pm buffet opens

Talk with your vendors. They should be able to help. Mine is based off advice from the photog.
