Stomach Flu

Ugh...the bug has hit. Of course, on a friday! So I guess I will be spending my whole weekend trying to get over this and watching Gossip Girl on Netflix (Nate Archibald...yum). Had to leave work early too...after 15mins of getting there. What a waste of gas driving all the way there. Went to the dr & he said there is really nothing he can do for me. He suggested gatorade & crackers. I got alot of both of those things. And some sorbet popsicles, because for some reason I think those will help? Any suggestions for what i can do to help feel better sooner? Im so mad about this. I had plans to get all my laundry done (about 6 loads) and go meet with the Pastor tomorrow (I should still go, huh?). But now I just want to rest. Also, I am having a lot of pain in the middle of stomach (kind of like cramps, but they are not), any suggestions for how to help this?

Thanks ladies :]

Did the doctor who saw you, and presumably diagnosed you, give you any suggestions for dealing with the stomach pain? I would start there.

If you really do have the flu, I would reschedule with the Pastor. I am of the belief that if you are sick and contagious, you need to keep your butt home. People are appreciative of not having sick germs shared with them generally. Last time I had a cold, I basically quarantined myself from my poor husband so i didn't make him sick. If you don't absolutely have to make the meeting I would reschedule in a heartbeat.

[QUOTE]I hope you feel better! I am basically all finished with GG on Netflix... I started watching in the middle of the 3rd season a couple years ago, but caught myself up on 1 & 2 this year. And I agree on Nate (but holy catfish is he a terrible actor lol). I find what works for me is Vernors (not sure if that's available in your area?) and Campbell's chicken noodle soup. And sleep.

I did the same thing...started watching it in the middle of the show, at a random season. So, now I am catching myself up.
& Vernors...not sure what that is, so Im pretty sure there isnt one around me. Thank you for the advice.

I didnt ask because at that point, I wasnt having any of the stomach pain. It kinda went away around 11am (time of my dr apt) but it is back. & about the Pastor...we originally had to see him last weekend but my FI was sick, so we rescheduled for this weekend. I feel really bad that we are going to have to reschedule again. I dont want him to think that we are not serious about this. Im sure he will understand, right? But I really do agree that I should stay home...Im not even sure I am going to have the energy to get up and go.

  • Reschedule with the Pastor. I'm sure he will understand.

I would call your doctor's office and leave a message for the doctor that you saw about your stomach pain. Generally they answer messages fairly quickly and they know how to best treat that.

  • So sorry to hear that you're sick! It has been going around our office, and I've come down with some kind of chest congestion. I'm definitely happy that it isn't the flu though.

As far as rescheduling, I'm sure your Pastor would not only understand but encourage you to stay home. You don't want to feel responsible for spreading any germs and then have him spread those germs to people in the congregation.
  • The stomach flu is actually the wrong term for it, its not associated with influenza and is called gastroenteritis, or inflammation of the stomach and small intestine. Since its a virus all you can do is let it runs its course, the doctor cant do anything. stick with the BRAT diet. The only way to transfer this is fecal oral route, aka someone didnt wash their hands well enough after using the bathroom, touched a surface, you touched it and touched your mouth. To avoid contaminating anyone you live with, don't prepare food for at least a week, and you will be contagious for at LEAST 72 hours after your symptoms stop. Use a bleach solution to wash down every doorknob, counter, faucet.. Any possible surface. This really shouldn't last more than 24 hours, and rehydrate using fluids with electrolytes and not loads of water cause you need to replace the electrolytes you lost. Good excuse to stay in bed all weekend. Good luck and feel better, I'm highly emetophobic and absolutely dread the stomach virus.
