Re: Frustrated

  • You say "I'm sorry, I work M-F from 8am - 5pm.  would you be able to meet with me at 6pm on Tuesday?   Or, at 9am on Saturday?   Or, can we schedule a conference call/skype date at noon during my lunch hour?"
  • I agree! I feel the same way about doctors offices and things like that... like i cant take a day off just to see u!

This.  She should be able to work with you, if she wants your business.  DH and I got married 250 miles away from where we live and vendors were great about meeting on Fridays or Saturdays.

  • I'm sure a LOT of her clients are in the same boat. Just communicate with her.
    And stop whining.

  • Have they actually said 'No, I'm sorry, I cannot possibly meet with you after hours or on a weekend'?

The only rebuttal I received while looking for a planner was 'I'm sorry, I have already an event booked on that date.'

But I totally understand your desire to get this booked quickly, I mean, you only have 19 months.
  • I have yet to meet with a vendor during regular business hours and we've booked everything but a florst and baker at this point. Almost all our meetings were on weekends. Plus, the majority of my communication with vendors so far has been via email and phone. And since you're not getting married until 2014, I'd chill a bit. You really have no reason to stress yourself out yet.

  • Work with someone who is willing to have meetings after hours on occassion and is easily accessible via email/phone.

You have A LOT of time before you really need to be worried about this stuff. You're not in a rush, so there is no need to settle.

  • Most vendors will start out saying "our hours are X to Y," because they're trying as best they can to maintain a normal workday for themselves, just like anyone else would want to.  That said, I have never encountered a single vendor who wasn't able to figure out an alternative option for an appointment time when I came back with "oh, X to Y won't work for FI and I because of our work obligations."

Now this Internet thing, where can I find one? Is it available to the public?

  • Why do people feel that others should work odd hours just to make it easier on them?  Pretty much any vendor, event planner, or doctor's office have set daily hours.  Does it suck that I may have to take an hour out of my work day (either PTO or make up the hours) to fit in a gyno appointment?  Sure.  But I certainly wouldn't complain to my doctor that he should start scheduling his annual appointments around what works best for me.

Stop whining, and start communicating.  Like PP have said, email and phone conversations could work wonders.
