Wedding Insurance

Is anyone getting wedding insurance? If so, what are you worried about?

Re: Wedding Insurance

  • The only thing I was worried about was a blizzard because we got married in Janaury in Buffalo.  And if that happened, we would have just gotten married anyway with whoever made it.

  • I might have considered it if we were going on a cruise, or honeymooning in a place that might have a hurricane or other interruption.  Because of our circumstances, I didn't think it was necessary.

  • i can see getting insurance if i was having an extravegant wedding with lots of vendors and spending a ton of money.

because we are DIYing most of the wedding, if something goes wrong we have ourselves to blame.

  • no, i figured since we weren't spending $100k for a tahiti wedding I didn't have too much to worry about.  i'm also using a lot of local vendors plus references so I'm not too worried.  good question though

We got wedding insurance through WedSafe.  It was a small price to pay for the peace of mind.

We were worried about hurricanes since our location was in the Florida Keys in mid November.  There was a hurricane a week before our wedding, but luckily it didn't hit the Keys.  We also got wedding insurance to protect from vendor no-shows and loss of deposits.  Vendors are going out of business hroughout the US due to the economy, so we wanted as much protection as possible.

  • I looked in to wedding ins b/c we thought about having our wedding at a new venue not yet open, the facility was still being built out, will be awesome when finished but was worried it wouldn't be ready in time (no, I'm not totally out of my mind - chef/owner is a friend).

I was told that any contingency that you know about, or have reason to know about or expect might happen, is excluded from coverage; therefore, our situation was not insurable.  Insurance only covers unforseen things.  Not sure about hurricanes during hurricane season in places that normally get hurricanes.

P.S. we are changing date and/or venue.

</div><div>The coverage terms completely depend on the insurer.  In the US the only companies I know of that provide actual wedding insurance are WedSafe and Fireman's Fund.  WedSafe does appear to insure the situation you were concerned about (venue not completing construction in time) and it covers cancellation/postponement costs for severe weather events (floods, hurricanes, nor'easters, etc) any time of year.  You can see examples of situations they cover here:</div><div><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.wedsafe.com/why-wedsafe/wedding-insurance-claims.jsp">http://www.wedsafe.com/why-wedsafe/wedding-insurance-claims.jsp</a>

  • FYI...if you look up wedding insurance on this website, it should list about a half dozen companies that will insure you.  We had to purchase a policy because our reception site requires that all vendors are adequately insured & we're providing our own liquor.  We got a policy for about $145 & it also automatically includes some coverage for cancellation/postponement, jewelry & photos & video.
  • we only got liability insurance.  Nothing to do with vendors and such.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • My ucle who owns an insurance company is purchasing wedding insurance as part of my wedding gift.  I am doing it because my husband is in the Army and if something happens (deployment, injury, PCS) I will be covered.  I am spending a significant amount on my wedding and I don't want to lose any money over something as unpredictable as the weather.
