Dress Bib?

This is a question for past brides.  I heard something along time ago that some brides were making/buying what basically could be a bib that would cover their dress while they get that 5 mins to eat.  I googled it and found some strapless ones and am pretty handy with a sewing machine myself.  Is this even necessary or worth the money?
Thanks!

In your daily life do you wear a bib while eating?  If not, is your outfit typically covered in food?  I would imagine that if you can get by most days that your wedding will be no different.  Put a napkin on your lap, pay attention to what you are doing and you will be fine.  Perhaps stay away from tomato sauce, beets, things that will stain if dropped and you'll be fine.
No offense, but if I saw a capable adult put on a bib when eating I would think it to be odd, an probably get a bit of a laught out of it.  I crack up when people wear lobster bibs.  (Obviously, those adults that are handicapable, and need a bib under normal daily circumstances are a different discussion where I find bibs to be completely acceptable)

Thanks.  I am perfectly capable but my concern is that we are having it catered by an amazing bbq place.  I was just not sure if other people had had issues where they dropped and wished they would have had that extra comfort.  It would match my dress so there wouldnt be much of a noticible difference.  I appreciate your honesty.

  • We had bbq and I used a napkin. It was fine. It seems like another wedding industry unnecessary item.
  • I have the tendency to spill things on occasion when eating.  There was no way on earth I was wearing any sort of bib at my wedding.  I put my napkin on my lap and was super careful while eating.  I was fine.

  • the BBQ catering is a helpful part of your post left out initially.  What happens when you typically eat BBQ?  Are you covered in it?
  • Do you wear a bib every time you eat BBQ?   I'm guessing you don't.  I don't.

I'm with Kaos.  Capable adults don't need bibs.  Use a napkin and be careful.  Maybe give yourself more than 5 minutes to eat so you're not trying to wolf it down in a hurry.

  • I ate a huge plate of pasta covered in red sauce and I did not get one spec of sauce on me.  Was I more careful then normal? Yes.  When I ate I made sure that the napkin went across my lap and that I leaned over my plate rather then sit back and bring the food to my mouth.  But at no time did I think a bib was necessary.

As for BBQ, when I eat BBQ typically my hands and face are covered in sauce (wings, ribs, etc) but nothing usually ends up on my clothes.  Now if it were BBQ that was eaten with a fork and knife, a bib is really not needed.

  • Yeah, there's no way in hell I'd be wearing a bib.
  • Even if you were to get some BBQ sauce on your dress, are you planning on wearing it again?  I'm guessing no (and odds are pretty good nobody else is going to want to wear it either).  I'm also going to guess that most of your pictures will already be taken and any left to take would be dancing (which any stained part would be facing your dance partner). So where is the harm if something stains it?

  • You could also have one of those tide stain sticks handy to get out anything that might splatter. But I find the bib thing odd. I googled it and the websites all said the protect your investment. A wedding dress isn't an investment. It's a piece of clothing, albeit, a really nice piece of clothing, but not an investment. Don't worry about the bib.

They said that!  What a load of you know what.  A wedding dress declines in value the moment you put your order in.  It isn't like you are purchasing a Picasso or a DaVinci painting.  Geesh, the wedding industry will say anything just to get you to purchase more pointless crap.

  • Thanks ladies!  I normally dont have much of a problem I just wasnt sure if others had bad experiences.  I know my FI will be making sure that we had time to eat.  I will definatley add a tide stick to my bag.  Thanks for the suggestion.  I thought the bib thing was odd but wasnt sure if it was common.

  • Just eat OVER your plate and you'll be fine.  A bib sounds ridicoulous.
  • Is this like a 'Bro Bib'? Nerdy HIMYM reference ;)

  • This is just as bad as the train sheet.

  • Your wedding dress is an investment.  Hahahaha.
  • I can somewhat understand the concern over spilling on the dress (I was paranoid myself), but honestly?  This bib is a baaad idea.

People will be taking pictures of you CONSTANTLY.  That means while you eat too.  I'd take a sauce stain over being immortalized in a bib anyday.  For sure.

  • You could always just tuck the end of the tablecloth into the top of your dress.  Super classy.   ;)
