Do you actually call him your fiance?

Although we have only been engaged for nineteen days, I find it awkward for me to refer to him as my fiance in common conversation, sometimes...

What about you?

Disclaimer: Please excuse the above comment. I'm probably freaking out because there is less than one month to go. Thank you.

Re: Do you actually call him your fiance?

  • I can't get enough of it!  I can't wait to use husband!  "My husband and I are checking in for our honeymoon!"  That will probably be the first time I say it!

  • You get the hang of it.

About an hour after he proposed I looked at him and said "oh shhit!  You're my fiance now!"  He shrugged and said, "I'm not different than an hour ago".

  • The day my Fi proposed I said to my cousin "Engaged, and fiance are so the strangest words in the English language."  Now, I'm sorta used to it.  But, when I call him at work i still say "It's his girlfriend."  It's made some of the new guys who don't know me, but know of me... very uncomfortable.

  • I hate the word fiance! It just sounds snooty to me.

  • The 1st time I said fiance was at work and it felt weird. I alternate between bf and fiance, it just slips out...I can't wait to use the word husband, I feel like it has more substance

  • My FI is actually the one that corrects people if they call me his gf.  He always says something jokingly along the lines of "Hey!  I paid for the new title!  She's my FI!"  Most find it funny coming from him because he's usually so quiet.

I love calling him 'my fiance'.  I might actually miss it after we're married :)
  • Haha! It definitely takes some getting used to. We've been engaged about 3 weeks now and I'm just starting to get used to it. And each time I do I love it more and more!
  • ndnikki... that's funny, my Fi does (and says) the same thing.

  • we do not use the word fiance. he is my boyfriend. funny how people correct me when i say that. i know a lot of people love it and that's great but we both find it pretentious. maybe because we have known people that used this title to death. saying it in front of every sentence. so i guess we have a bad association with it. we like saying husband and wife though so we're looking forward to that.

This. I always feel so strange about saying it.  I can't wait wen I can say "husband" and get out of the creepy fiance phase.

  • I don't mind using it, but my FI hates it so he either calls me him GF or Wife, depending on who is talking to.  But Wife is the most used, it is kinda weird to hear him say it.
  • I do not like to use FI it just feels to fancy for my vocab. I just say my BF IDK what he calls me probably just Miah
  • It took a while for us as well.  While I can now call him my fiance and that we are getting married, I'm still not ready for the words husband and wife to enter into my vocabulary.

I am excited as hell to get married, but I just don't think that I am WIFE material.

  • I say FI and love it! But I am looking forward to husband soo much more.  I don't drop FI in every conversation, but a lot of people I am around don't know my FI or even his name.  So I typically start with My Fi and say his name and then slowly use Fi less and less just so people aren't confused as to whom I am talking about  I like using his name best :).  But then after 2 weeks I am with new people I don't know and I start again.

  • Actually I know it sounds wrong & it's not proper to do but it makes it so much easier to just call him my husband. And he introduces me as his wife. Sometimes we call each other my soon to be ______  I thin we've only introduced each other once as our fiance or fiancee. But usually we just call each other husband & wife. I know we shouldn't it's not proper but whatever.

  • After FI and I first got engaged, I'd call him my FI and then I'd end up slipping up and calling him my BF.  He didn't like that I'd slip and call him BF.  We love calling each other FI - but I can say that we absolutely can't wait to call each other husband and wife.

  • I like calling him fiance and he calls me fiancee. It's that little bit of French that became an English term (because English doesn't have a term to use). I love it.
  • We've been engaged for over a year and a half so calling him "fiance" is pretty normal to me now. Although, when I hear other people talking about me and him to someone else, a lot of times they refer to him as my boyfriend. Maybe they feel weird using the word?

  • I call him my boyfriend because I hate the word Fiance. Like pp have stated, I know so many people that get engaged and over use the word "Fiance". I also know a lot of people who overuse the word "Husband" too though. "Where's my husband?" and "Have you seen my Husband?". Any excuse to let you know they're married and have a "husband".
It drives me crazy. I have to say I do like the word husband much better than Fiance.

  • I hate the word fiance too, but I feel like if I don't use it and just say boyfriend people are going to wonder why I don't call him my fiance, lol. I'm looking forward to "husband" too, because like someone else said it just has more substance! Boyfriend and husband just sound normal, fiance sounds like "look at me, look at me, I'm engaged!" haha
  • I definitely call him my FI, and he calls me his. I mean, not all the time, of course, but when we are introducing each other to people, we will say "this is my FI, _____" or when I'm telling a story to someone who doesn't know his name I'll call him my FI, rather than my BF. Since my wedding is SO close, sometimes I call him my husband, just because it makes me smile. :]

  • I never liked saying it, I think I just don't like the word. It felt weird to say it, especially after 3 years of 'boyfriend.'

2 months after the wedding, I've only saif 'husband' once. I haven't been in the situation that I need to say it, as I'm always around people who know us both so I can just use his name. But it still feels weird to say 'husband,' though it's a good weird feeling. DH says he's used 'wife' numerous times at work and loves to say it.
  • FI and I have a hrad time using it, so instead we use Future wife and Future husband, we stole it from 30 Rock! LOL It still slips out bf and he calls me gf and I will be like HEY you ARE marrying me so I am your fiance or future wife, but we joke about it.

  • I love saying it, but mostly love hearing him say it. It did take a few months though. In the beginning, I would kinda giggle when introducing him as my "fiance". But that's because I'm really really immature.
  • I had no problems with it.  DH actually preferred it, because he thought that calling me his girlfriend implied that we weren't as serious as we were.  I sometimes feel a little strange referring to him as my husband to other people, but we like to get cute and sappy and just call each other "husband" and "wife" all the time.

I do occasionally slip up here and refer to him as FI instead of DH, but I usually catch it before I post.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I like "fiance" but I think it sounds weird sometimes. I've also called him my husband a couple times, like when we were at Staples on Saturday and someone asked me if I needed any help, I said "no thanks, I'm just waiting for my husband to get out of the bathroom."
  • My FI still messes up and calls me his girlfriend sometimes. But I'm so used to saying it on here that I'm fine with it. At first I hated saying fiance, but it's totally normal now, like saying boyfriend.

I love fiance.  I feel like every time I said BF I was back in HS or something.  No idea why I felt that way!
