Dress before alterations

My dress will hopefully be in by August/September but I'm not getting married until April.  My mom thought I was nuts ordering it so soon, but they said it could take 6-8 months so I didn't want to take a chance.  I have not decided if I plan to have my alterations done at the dress shop or not.  If I do, then I'm assuming they will hold on to the dress until it's time for alterations next year.  Or am I wrong to assume that?  Or will I have to take it home and store it until next year?  I hope not!  I suppose I could pick up the phone and call them, but it seemed easier to post instead!

You need to call your dress shop to ask if they will store if for you.  I purchased mine from David's Bridal and they will not hold dresses - at all.

In regards to alterations I would ask your dress shop what they normally charge.  It may be cheaper for you to find a local person to do alterations.  Some stores charge reasonable prices for alterations and others do not.  Do some research on your store/area.

Definitely call the store.  Many stores will not hold your dress - they just don't have that kind of storage room.

My store required that you pick it up within 30 days, no storage at all, even for a fee.  

Call your bridal store.

Just called them and she said it's completely up to me if I want to take it home or leave it there.  No fee which I'm surprised about after reading these posts!  I'm afraid if I take it home I'll end up like Monica on Friends when she's doing dishes in the wedding dress!
