My work throws us pretty extravagant showers, and a girl there was bragging about how the only reason they were even registering was so people at work could buy them stuff. Because they already had everything they could ever want.
So I went to her registry and they had a $300 vase (from BBB!), and a set of 30 wine glasses and a set of 30 high ball glasses, and a $200 bowl.

So um yeah, I didn't donate anything for her work shower.

I also know one girl who registered for the same items at 3 different stores.  What a PITA that must have been for the guests to figure out.

Diapers along with other baby items. . .just to see what people would think, or so I was told. The bride wasn't pregnant and apparently the groom joked that if someone bought the items, they'd return them and get the money.

Also, Cleaning supplies (like windex, Lysol, paper towels), oh and Fun Dip. My husband wanted to just buy them a huge basket of Fun Dip.

One registered for a giant toy robot lizard once.  Uh...

I don't have a problem with the living room set, honestly.  I think they put it on there expecting people to give cash and/or giftcards towards it...but then again, I don't know the people, maybe they really expected it?  Our friends put a couch on their registry and used a completion discount and cash gifts to buy it.

My friend registered for deodorant and yogurt I think either on accident or as a joke. Let's just say her husband was set on deodorant for a while! I bet people would have bought the yogurt too if it didn't have to stay cold!

That same couple also registered for an Xbox. They figured no one would buy it so they'd get the discount on it. Not a terrible idea!

I've also seen movies, card/board games and camping supplies. I don't find those TOO weird, since they're things the couple would use. I did get the camping supplies for one of my friends for her wedding!

Dawn dish detergent, cat food, underwear, socks.

ETA: The couple that registered for this stuff is a VERY odd couple, so I wasn't that surprised to find such odd items on their registry.

Service for 50 each of wine glasses, margarita glasses, martini glasses, champagne glasses, beer mugs, and highball glasses.  So...300 total pieces of bar glassware.  The glasses themselves wasn't odd, but the quantity was.

Not going to lie - we registered for camping supplies.

We don't own any gear - and it's something we've been wanting to do for awhile - but haven't been able to give up the cash to buy the things we need. -_-

My ex-best friend registered for a Chi flat iron and hair dryer.  No one bought it for her.  In fact, no one bought anything off her registry because everyone found out she was already married and her wedding was a sham.

LOL, that's pretty funny.  Nothing says married bliss like his and hers Shake Weights. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue Out" title="Tongue Out" />
In Response to Re: Crazy Things People Register For : We did too and these were the first gifts purchased off our registry. As a guest I like to buy these types of gifts (camping supplies, board games, etc.) for people over dishes and towels.  I like to think that what I gave the couple will bring them joy and give them some good memories.  I don't think dishes and towels do that most of the time.
Posted by LingerLonger1
I agree! I posted them because they're not what you might "typically" see on a wedding registry. I know my friend and her husband like to camp so why not get them something they'd enjoy?

My mom is fun when she buys gifts for people a lot of the time. Instead of just getting someone coffee mugs or cake pans, she will also buy them some coffee and cake mix or something. I think it adds a little extra :-)

Nver been to  wedding with a registry.  So I'll just add the things that we registered for that people might think are odd or out there:

Vegetable peeler
Tomato peeler
Egg steamer
Pull along luggage cart (the ones to take to farmers market)

And these are all things FI wanted to register for LOL.

The only other thing that would seem ood is an iron tea pot BUT everyone knows Fi is a HUGE tea drinker.  This pot is used to steep real tea leaves.  I hope somone gets it for him...if not, I will.  He loves it.
