Is this an inappropriate father - daughter song?

I've been to weddings where there were really inapprporiapte fauther daughter songs like: Celine Dion my heart will go on, and you can let go daddy (which is about a father dying?!)

Anyway, I love this song for my dad and I, but I'm wondering if it's too romantic.
My dad and I went to a Don Henley concert together and loved it! I love this song, it was written by Don Henley when his daughter was born- it's about taking her home from the hospital, but still, the lyrics can be pretty romantic.

What do you think??? I don't want to embarrass myself on day of, so please tell me if it's too romantic. I'd rather be told here that it's inappropriate,  than have people talk about me behind my back on day of :)
Thanks girls!

Hmm, I looked at the lyrics and they do seem romantic. It was written about his daughter though?

</div><div>Yeah, Don Henley has said in various interviews that it was written about taking his daughter home from the hospital. I just don't want to have people thinking, "what the hell was she thinking picking that song!?"</div>

  • Can you have the dj announce the father-daughter dance and say something about why that song is special to you both?  I don't think I've seen people announce the song like that before, but I think it could work.

  • If you like it, use it.  Most guests aren't going to know the backstory of the song; they're going to associate it with Titanic and romance.  I was about to suggest the DJ sharing the backstory and saw that CES had the same thought.

  • Are you doing programs? What if you include each dance in the program and why you chose that song!
  • looove it, its special to you two, and who cares what anyone thinks, not that it would have anyone thinking bad
  • I would go ahead and use it and enjoy it.  My dad died almost six years ago and I would give anything to dance with him to a special song that had meaning for us.  Also, I have been in three weddings and gone to a ton and I can't remember most people's first dances. I remember what my cousin and her husband danced too b.c. it was popular at the time but that's it!  Enjoy it!

  • yea i agree if you have someone say a lil background of it, i think it should be fine, remember its your wedding, dont do things because of what other people mgiht think.... I have to keep telling myself that

  • I don't think you have to explain yourself. I am doing my father/daughter dance to Harvest Moon by Neil Young... It has nothing to do with father/daughter stuff and actually has a romantic weird line that isn't appropriate for a father/daughter relationship. BUT- that is a song that I remember from my childhood and it makes me think about hanging out with my dad.

It is your dance with your daddy. If the song has meaning to you, you should dance to it. You want to remember the moment, not dance to something that doesn't really mean anything to you.

  • At most weddings, the music is just background, and guests usually watch the father/daughter dance intently, or casually chat, so the lyrics won't really be critiqued.  I do like the idea of making a small announcement.  If you don't want the DJ to do the announcement, what about you or your father saying something about the meaning of the song?
  • I ddin't read any obviously inappropriate lyrics so I would say go for it! On the other hand, unless you include the back story nobody will know it is about the daughter which then might make it seem inappropriate. I would say use it only if there is some mention of explanation before hand.
