Viennese Hour

I'm seriously considering having a Viennese Hour at our wedding however I've never been to a wedding with one and I'm not entirely sure how it should be executed & what the time line should be?

I would think the Viennese Hour would be in place of a Dessert Course. Is it appropriate to have the viennese hour immediately following dinner, or is it ok to have it an hour or so later? Giving people a chance to diegest their dinners.

This is what I'm thinking for timeline.

6:45 Entrance/Introduction
7:00pm Dinner is served with speeches in between each course. and allowing some time for any remaining  speeches after dinner.
8:30-9pm Dinner is complete. First Dance & Cut the Cake.
9:30-10pm Viennese Hour.

Does this timeline make sense?

A Viennese Hour is pastries and coffee/tea usually.
OP, I wouldn't so it directly after dinner. I think having it after some dancing is fine.

  • It's usually comes out for dessert, after you cut yoru wedding cake, maybe an hour before the reception is over.  I had this at my wedding and loved it!

That being said, it's a lot of food and usually is an additional cost.  My venue actually gave us the Viennese Hour for free, so I'm not sure I would have paid extra to have this.

Ours came out after the cake cutting which was an hour after dinner.  Just an idea- ask your venue if you could provide take out boxes to your guests so they can take stuff from the viennese hour as a favor. That's what we did.

I would have the caterer bring out the desserts for Viennese hour as the dinner service was finishing up and have it served at the same time you are cutting the cake and having that served. Particularly, since your dinner service is ending close to 9pm.

That's a great idea! I was wondering what we could do as a favor! This might be perfect!

Whoops, I didn't mean the viennese hour would only be 30 mins. I meant it would commence between 9:30-10pm and would be out as long as our venue would allow so people can munch for the rest of the evening.

Our reception will end at 1am.

  • My venue offers this and I am definitely planning to include it for my reception. It will also double as a favor for those who would like to take a box of goodies home. I can't wait!

So I was in contact with my venue today and they are including a dessert buffet (not quite a viennese hour but almost) for only $4pp. Which is pretty awesome becuase that was what they were charging for the chocolate mouse that would have been served for dessert.

So instead we will have our Dessert Buffet about an 30-45 mins after dinner wraps up and will be available for the remaninder of the evening.

I'm thinking after the final speeches we will cut the cake. Then while the venue is cutting the cake into individual servings and setting up the dessert buffet we will do our first dance, parents dances. After which We'll have the DJ annouce Dessert has been served and to help yourself. We'll include take out boxes and candy bags for people to take treats home!!

I'm super excited about this! I wasn't feeling very excited about our menu before, but now.... this changes everything!!

EDIT: AND the $4 INCLUDES the cake cutting fee!!!!
