Hotel Blocks?

Hey girls I was wondering when you made your hotel blocks for your wedding (if you had them). And how did you decide how many rooms, and what prices to go for.... Some of my OOT relatives were already talking about booking hotels "soon" last weekend. I think its a little too early? Thanks in advance :)

We made our blocks over a year ahead of time. But we also had a very busy weekend with the Nascar Race, Rodeo and Fishercats. We based it on how many out of town people we were expecting. We had 2 hotels with 10 rooms at each. Whatever isn't booked is released, and in some cases you can add more as needed. HTH!

Since we're getting married Labor Day wknd, we did hotel blocks about 10-11 months in advance. We chose to block rooms at three hotels with different price points. Also, one of the hotels had 2-night minimum but at lower nightly rate. The hotels helped me figure out how many rooms to block. Hope that helps!

we weren't actually able to block rooms - which you might find in some areas. We did however arrange a group rate about 9 months before the wedding. there was one hotel that wouldn't do a rate at that time b/c they were already pretty full.  I don't think there's anything wrong wit hcrossing that off your list sooner rather than later. A few options for people is nice, try to find one with the lowest rate if poss. GL!

I did mine in February for October. In my area, there were only 2 good hotels right near my venue, and one had already given out all the discounts for that weekend that they could. It seems early to me, but if the hotel doesn't release the blocks too soon (before you expect your RSVPs) then go for it!  One more check on your list.# of rooms should be based on your # of OOT couples/families, round up, as long as they'll just release the unused ones and not charge you any fees for them.

I work at a 25 room inn in VT close to the NH border. Our policy is that you can block them in advance and there is a contracted release date. So after that date they become fair game for anyone and you are no longer responsilbe. It's the way to go especially if your wedding is on a holiday weekend, or during foliage.

We contracted our room block a couple months back for our July 2010 wedding. We figured if the inn was willing to do it early we might as well get it taken care of. We have a lot of oot guests coming from a long way so they are already thinking about booking tickets and hotel rooms. I'm suprised how many poeple have already booked rooms!
