Stressed Out Need Advice!

We orginally planned our wedding for Oct 2010.  Due to unforseen circumstances (family being deployed to Iraq) we moved the wedding up to Feb 2010.  Since then i have lost my job which put an added stress to the plannin process.  My fiance is also now in a custody mess with his ex which is costing us more money then we had planned for.  With my wedding fast approaching i feel completely overwhelmed and I'm wondering if at this point we'll be able to pull the wedding off.  I am ready to rip my hair out and am no longer enjoying the moment of planning and getting married.  Then to add to the stress FI was told today at work that they are cutting back hours due to lack of work.  At this point the only option we have is to push the wedding off.  Question is because we changed the date twice now is it a bad thing to once again change the date?  I dont know what else to do...im nervous any advice would be great.  I'm a mess :(

Re: Stressed Out Need Advice!

  • If changing the date is your only option, then change it.  It may be better for you to just simply go to the courthouse and get married, then plan a larger vow renewal a few years down the line if you decide you still want the big party.  Sounds like you need to remove some major stress from your life, and taking all the wedding fooferaw out of the equation will probably be for the best.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Ditto aerin.  Brentsgurl:  you CAN be married without the big princess party.  Have a small wedding.  Have cake and punch following, or even pizza and beer.

You'll be married just as much as if you had the big, far more expensive wedding and reception.

The stress will be off of you both, and most important:  you'll be married!

Then in 5 or 10 years, have a vow renewal if you feel you must, or even better~enjoy being married.

You have to evaluate what is more meaningful to you at this point in your lives:  being married or having a wedding that you can't afford at this time in your lives.

From my POV, that's not even a question or a difficult decision to make.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • You have several options wait until all the other things are taken care of and then plan your wedding.
             OR
Have a small intimate wedding at the Court House with a small dinner hosted at a local Resturant.

Times are rough for alot of couples out there. Alot are facing alot of different setbacks etc. I know I can relate to those child custody issues, has we have been dealing with that for a long time and have been soaked for thousands.

Hang in there because in the end of it all its just about you two anyways.

  • Do what is best for you, without going into financial ruin.  It looks like the best options have already been mentioned above, but please keep in mind that $$ is neccessary to live and survive, so please don't put yourself in a position where you can't support yourself and you family.

  • As all the wonderful options have been mentioned above, i think whatever relieves the stress on you will be the best option. The courthouse isn't really that bad of an idea, maybe followed by an impromtu reception, or even a small wedding in a family members backyard with a cook-out type feel and an ipod to get the party started. Whatever you chose, you can make it unique, and if you have to change the date a third time....it's your wedding day you have every to change and change again until it's absolutely perfect. Your happiness right now is key.
