Ways to include my parents?

My wedding is Saturday. I've known from the start of planning that due to
chronic health conditions, neither of my parents would be able to attend, no matter where the wedding was held. With that in mind, FI and I decided to hold the wedding where we and 99 percent of our guests live, which is two hours from my parents.

I was in their town for a meeting this afternoon, and stopped by to check in on them. I brought them wedding favors and shared pictures of my dress, hair trial, and venue, but it was a really sad visit knowing they can't be there.

My brother is taping our ceremony and will email that, along with pictures, to my parents immediately after the ceremony. FI and I plan on calling my parents right after the reception. I'll bring my dress the next time I visit and try it on for them. Other than that...can anyone think of ways to include my parents? I know I don't want to hold chairs in their honor, because it will make me cry, but I'm open to other ideas.

  • It sounds like a good idea for your brother to tape the wedding. Do your parents have a wedding song? Maybe you can dance to their song at some point at the reception. Are you having your DJ do a slideshow (montage)? If so, you can include family pics. I can't really think of much else to do.

Is there any way you can set up a computer/tablet so they could watch live via Skype?

  • Thanks for the ideas. We considered Skype or other streaming early on, but my parents told me not to bother because there's an excellent chance they wouldn't be able to watch it in real time, given the schedule of their treatments. They feel the video is sufficient.
