you ever received at a Wedding?

I hate clutter and useless stuff.  I am assuming people probably don't want something that says our wedding date on in.

What should we do?

I have received mini and regular size bottles of wine quite a few times.

A wine glass with candy in it.

My best friend bought wine glasses in bulk and then put little organza bags full of candy in them. She originally wanted to hand paint their initials and wedding date on it but I talked her out of it as I probably would stick that in the back of a cabinet and never use it again. She opted to put cute charms on the glasses instead.

Although - one of my co-workers did this....

Him and his wife bought bottles of Sangria in bulk. They peeled off the labels and made custom labels. Their budget allowed for it though. They gave a bottle per couple or per person depending if they came solo or not.

I didn't go to the wedding but I loved the idea.

My favorite favors are consumable. One couple had small bottles of wine with their personalized labels, home made bottles of beer from another couple. My daughter's favors were nip bottles of a middle-eastern liquor to represent the groom's Armenian and Lebanese family members and maple sugar candies to represent our New England roots. The few favors that were left behind did not go to waste.

THe only favors I remember were custom M&Ms and scratch off lottery tickets. I agree that favors should be edible/consumable. I don't usually take things home with me that I can't use up.

The only favors I have ever enjoyed were consumable.  I always feel stuck with other things.  Like if I get rid of it and you notice, will you be mad?

Edible all the way!  Some people are sentimental and like to keep those things, but for most, they are just "junk" cluttering the house and collecting dust. 

We did a lot of stuff with river rocks (seating chart, decor, "guest book"), so we did little buckets of chocolate rocks. 

The worst favor I ever got was a bookmark with a picture of the couple and their wedding date on it.

My favorites were sugar cookies with icing on them.  They were so delicious!  I got many compliments on my favors, which were chocolate covered pretzals.  Edible favors are the best by far!

I agree that edible favors are great, but my favorite favors are the photo strips that I get to take home from weddings with photo booths.

late to the party, but a family member of FI's gave out small tins of a pice blend they like to grill with. It's awesome sodef. my favorite.

When my friends got married they chose they chose their favorite TV shows as the table themes.

I was put at the How I Met Your Mother table, and our favor was amazing!! The bride personally got us each made a duckie tie like Barney's. They were a big hit, made for wonderful photos, and it was really neat how she went the extra mile to make them for us.

I personally love photo strips from photo booths.  Or mini bottles of wine.  But that's coming from someone who isn't a big candy person.  Edible favors always seem to be a big hit.

Photostrips has my vote, too. My cousin had 2 prints of each photo. One for her memory book, and one for the guest that was in the picture. I still have mine on my fridge! I priced them and the photobooth is around $200/hr with a 3 hour minimum. Well worth it if you have it in the budget.

I do like photobooths, but they are a little "overdone" anymore.  I actually gone a TON of compliments on our favors. We did mini jars of organic honey, and a cookie/dessert/candy buffet. 

All of the cookies/desserts were homemade (yes, I stayed up late in the 3 days before the wedding and baked).   We had little to-go boxes that matched our wedding colors set up next to the honey jars, and people made a to-go box with the cookies, brownies, lemon bars, almond/chocolate bars, and a variety of candies.

Food.  Food.  Food.  I could repeat it more.    I also love the little photo strips, as I really only have ones of me and DH and he's terrible at getting the timing right, so he's always making some stupid face or another.  The only good one I got was from 2 mutual friends.  They had a music theme (a huge influence on both of them), and they did mix- CD's of songs that meant something to them, which also marked our tables.  (Your table got to eat when the DJ played that song)  Thankfully, all the music was good music, so I was happy to keep it.

Friends of ours had chocolates on the way out the door, chocolate crabs because he's from Maryland and maple leafs because she's from New Hampshire. We did my favorite cookies as our favors.

Best favor ever that I got at 2 weddings was chocolate covered oreos.  Seriously to die for.  Same girl made the favors for both.  If you're interested, check out "trisha's twisted treats" on facebook.  She makes chocolate covered pretzels too.  Yum!

I should print this post out and show it to my future mother in law who insists that an edible wedding favor is not a real favor.  It is very frustrating.

The thing is, not everybody takes their favors. You really have to think about what you're going to do with the leftovers if your guests decide to leave them behind. I seriously know a girl that got stuck with 53 champagne flutes with "Julie & Matt 08-09-08" engraved on them because almost 1/2 her guests forgot/decided not to take the favor. They wound up eventually getting thrown out, because she couldn't even donate/sell them anywhere with the engraving on them.


We did little boxes of Jelly Bellys (Toasted Marshmallow and Cappuccino-they taste awesome together, trust me), which is something we love. We figured if for some reason every single box got left behind, we'd have no problem "disposing" of the leftovers. When all was said and done, we maybe had 12 boxes left behind (Roughly 100 guests), and we had absolutely no qualms about it.

Really random, but my favorite wedding favor was a yarmulke.  FI and I were invited to a Jewish wedding and all the men had to wear yarmulkes in the temple sanctuary.  We are not Jewish and as the bride had converted from Christianity, at least half the male guests needed a yarmulke too.  So they had yarmulkes with their names and wedding date on the inside.  I can honestly say I only like it, because it is unique to me.  Otherwise I agree with PP's.  Edible all the way!

Just a note on favors that are a photo of the couple, as that is the most common favor I have encountered.  I throw those away.  There is nowhere to put it and I have no use for a tiny picture of my cousin and his/her new spouse posing with their wedding date.  The magnet versions are worse!  Don't get me wrong, I like photos of my relatives.  Just not the tiny favor versions.  (Can you tell I have received WAY too many of these?)

We were going to skip favors, but H's last name is the name of a very popular candy. So we bought a ton of the mini bite-sized versions. Then we printed out little cards with a picture of us with our dog and underneath put, 'Thanks for Coming, Love, the '____'s'. We put 3 to a bag and stapled the card to it. It was cute, cheap, and we totally ate the leftovers.

yep......
the wedding I attended fed you all night long, seriously they served sliders and mini mac and cheese bites at midnight a half hour before reception ended.  We were stuffed from all the food, cocktails, and sweets.  All I wanted was water to sip on during the drive home before I passed out in my bed due to a food coma!
