Any Polaroid Brides??

I'm using a Polaroid camera as part of my guest book and for fun.  I've seen this used lately and I'd love any advice on purchasing the super expensive film.  I'd also like to know if there was any trouble with expired film.  Thank you ladies!

Re: Any Polaroid Brides??

  • I remember poloroids from when I was growing up and I am a MOB!  What I remember from my mom and my oldest brother was to be very careful with the film (as in the expiration date).  I remember a bit of a hissy fit from my mom one Christmas regarding the pictures coming out like crap and having some expired film.  I don't how expired it was, but I remember the little fit for sure.

One other thing to remember on these:  I am now the family repository for the family photos and the poloroids did not age well at all.  I have film pics from the early 60's-70's and poloroids from the early 60's - 70's.  Both don't age well over the long-haul but the film prints aged better.  If it is important to  you that these pictures maintain their color and age well (like for your 25th anniversary), Poloroid is not the way to go.

Personally, I would consider digital.  They will last forever and if someone blinks or doesn't take a good picture, the wasted picture isn't going to cost you anything.

  • Polaroid pictures just don't have the same longevity as regular pictures. While it's a really cute and fun idea to use polaroid pictures, those people who used them might some day regret it when their pictures fall apart, like mine have. I could be wrong, but I don't think you can restore polaroids, either, like you can with regular pictures. Also something to consider, people have become used to digital pictures, where it really doesn't matter how many takes you do. Blinked? Try again. Weird smile? Try again. Awkward pose? Try again. You get the idea. With the cost of polaroid film, it can add up fast and not everyone knows that. I do like the idea, though. I'd look around and see if there is a way to execute it with a digital camera or something.

  • I agree with kmmssg on the Polaroid film and just wanted to add that my mom has Polaroids of my brother and I from the 1980s that are cracking and flaking off.  We're currently scrambling to get them all scanned before all the pictures have deteriorated past the point of no return.

  • We're using the new "polaroid" cameras for our guestbook.  Newer technology, so I'm hoping it'll last longer.

  • Thank you all for the great advice!  I'd really like to use them for sentimental purposes; my Granpa used to take Polaroid pics of us all the time as kids Smile  It is very reminiscent of a great time in my life.  With all of your input, I'll look for a more modern version of the camera but make sure that I set aside some time to scan them in to my computer for safe keeping!!  Happy day ladies!  Thanks again!

I'm planning on using the new 300 polaroid camera and film. But I am a little hesistant because the film isn't that inexpensive. The cheapest I have seen it is about $10 for a box of 10, and that was on amazon. Anyone else find them cheaper?

Otherwise I need to limit my guest to only taking one or two pictures of themselves.
