His Ring

FI and I went to the mall to pick out a wedding ring for him.  He picked out a 6mm comfort fit yellow gold band.  We checked around and they want around $450 for one.  Does anyone know of any reputable online sites that I could order one from for less?

Also, how much did you spend on his ring if you've already bought it?

I dont know any sites, but my FI picked out a 10k gold band with some etching design and it was about $400. We got his band from the same jeweler where he got my e-ring and wedding band

  • check out overstock.com They have nice bands for men.
Also, FI bought my e-ring on Amazon and got an amazing deal.. 30% less than in a jewelry store he had gone to here in town.

  • Did you offer less than what is on the tag? Most reputable stores will take less.

My FI got a Titanium ring. It is more durable than gold and cost about $150.
  • I forget if it was Tungsten or Titanium, one of those, it was 130 bucks! :)

  • My FI's ring was tungsten carbonite.  It was $200.
  • Yeah, I feel like $450 is a lot for a simple band.  Fi thought so too when he saw the price tags... lol.. He was like, "I thought it was going to be like $100..."  I didn't think it was going to be that cheap, but I didn't think it was going to be so much either!

I don't want him to get something he doesn't want though, just because of the price....
  • FI's ring is titanium, it was $120 which included a lifetime warranty.

  • DH's is:
    • size 10,
    • titanium,
    • engraved
    • lifetime warranty
    • $140. total
  • He wanted a titanium band. I found one that was 98% titanium and had a personalized engraving put inside. Thanks to post-Thanksgiving day sales, it was only $50 plus shipping. I got it from Zales, online.

I agree with other posters, check amazon, e-bay, overstock...Even Costco sometimes has good deals on jewelry. Also check jewelry stores online. Many may have after-Christmas sales going on now.
  • FI's 6mm yellow gold ring was around 350-400... we thought it was a little high, and found it about 50 bucks cheaper at your zales or whatever... but we just went with the jeweler he got my ering from.
  • Fiance's ring is a titanium band with 2 crbon fiber cords set in and also had 2 tension set diamonds. His ring size is 7.5 and cost around $250 we looked at gold and they cost (for his elaborate tastes) up to 1 grand so this was the best bet for our money

  • I forget DH's caret amount, but it's white gold, 5mm and it was $350 or so.  We bought it almost 18 months ago and I know the price of gold has gone up in that time.  It can be replaced once during his lifetime if anything (including lost or stole) happens to it.

Personally I really did not find that to be a bad price, considering my rings costs many times that and DH will wear it for the rest of his life.

Try something like Zales or Gordons onine stores. My FI and I have been "engaged" and planning since mid summer, but the official ring and proposal came this Chirstmas, and we pick out the ring together online, cause I knew I could save him a bunde that way.  We ended up getting a H near colorless certified diamond 0.28ct solitare for $244.44 after the sale price, the additonal 30% off and a $50 off code.  It was over $500 to start with.  I recieved it 12/30 and its the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
To me its the thought and the sentiment behind the ring, not the size or $$$. The wait was because we just bought 6 acres of land to build a home on this fall and I didn't want him spending thousands on a ring. Hopefully I can get our wedding rings at a good deal too!  Shoot we may even be pushing the wedding back a few weeks to a month for $$$ reasons.

  • My FI's ring is tungsten carbide and cost... $13.99.  On eBay.  He loves the ring and the fact that I got a good deal on it.  Tungsten is actually an extremely plentiful element, so they're cheap to make.  The markup on them is amazing.

  • $450 is ridiculous.

Like the other posters, my DH picked out a titanium comfort fit band, brushed finish with detailing, $125 at JCPenney.
  • The difference in price between titanium, tungsten and gold is quite different - so keep in mind you are comparing apples to oranges here.

The price of gold has rocketed up as the economy has gone down.  Definitely look around online and at other local stores to see if you can get a comparable ring cheaper but keep in mind that he will (hopefully) be wearing this ring for the rest of his life and if he prefers yellow gold then that's the way to go.

I spent far more than I expected I would have to on my FIs white and red gold band but it is exactly what he wanted and how could I say no to him ones he found something that was "perfect".
