XP Parents Dance???

I posted this on the reception board, but thought you ladies might have some ideas.

My Fi and I are throwing around the idea of having our parents having a special dance at our reception, to show them how much we appreciate there support this last year.  Dancing to "remember when" by Alan Jackson.

We wouldnt tell them and just have the dj announce for them to come on the dance floor after my Fi's and I's dance and father daughter mother son.

Have you seen this done before? Would it be akward since its our day??
What are your thoughts?

[QUOTE]I'd be nervous that they wouldn't like being put on the spot.  Maybe just have the band announce the song is dedicated to them as a thanks and then leave it up to them if they want to dance or not.

I agree with this, unless you want to give them a heads up.

  • We plan to do something similar for my in-laws. Their 32nd anniversary is 2 days before the wedding, so I know their day will get lost in the chaos of all the wedding stuff. (Not that I want that to happen, I just know them.) We are having a special little cake made for them and going to play their song for them as well.

  • Thats what i was thinking, was would it be boring for everyone to watch them dance.

I like the idea of just doing a dedication to them when it plays, i honestly didnt think of that option hahah!

    Thanks for the input! :)

  • Another possibility would be to play their song (if they have one) at some point during the reception.  My parents' song is "Still the One" by Orleans, and because it's so upbeat, we had it played as the last song as a surprise and asked everybody to come out onto the dance floor.  My dad especially was so touched, and he's still talking about what a wonderful surprise it was.  You may be able to do something similar!

I like the dedication idea.  I don't like putting people on the spot.  Some people handle it well, others handle it very badly.  If you dedicate it to them it will most likely be less awkward and they will probably dance to it anyways.

ETA: Alcyone... I like that idea too.  Do a song they both love or find out what their first dance song was at their wedding.
  • dancing in wedding ceremonies are cool and funny. nowadays, it's trending. it would also ease the tension and seriousness.

  • My parents would never have wanted to be out there all eyes on them. But we did an anniversary dance, and I had the DJ announce both sets when they left the floor with how many years they both had been married.

  • Four spotlight dances is about three too many, IMO.

  • Yes, I'd like to honor my parents by making them dance down the aisle!  Ha.  Good one, chocofondue.
