Wedding Date, 9/10?

Hi,

I've been trying to talk to my fiance a bit about wedding dates, as we don't have a venue yet, and can only decide September 2011. Personally, I like September 10th, as it is after Labor day weekend, and it makes for a cool 9/10/11 for the invites.

However... He doesn't want to get married on the 10th. His feelings are that it's too close to 9/11, and he doesn't feel we should celebrate anything happy on Patriot Day.

I think it would be acceptable as the 10th and 11th are in fact, seperate days, and if anything, the "terrorists shouldn't get us down" by affecting a wedding/anniversary date of all things. But, he does come from a military family... So I don't know what to do! I can't figure out how to determine how big a deal it is to him. All he says is "fine. That's fine".

Help!  Is 9/10 too close to 9/11? Is it THAT big a deal?

Re: Wedding Date, 9/10?

  • If your FI is absolutely dead set against that day, how about 11/11/11?
I agree that life shouldn't be put on hold over 9/11, although since it will be the 10 year anniversary of it, maybe that has something to do with your FI not wanting to get married the day before.

    I'm getting married on 9/12/10.
It's the day after 9/11 becuase I chose not to have it on 9/11...my opinon and I know not everyone agrees w/ it...but i didnt want to get married on 9/11 so i chose 9/12 since it was still on the weekend.
A lot of our vendors are able to give us a better deal b/c we're not doing the standard saturday wedding.

  • Personally I wouldn't do 9/11, but 9/10 is a totally separate day.

However, if your FI is adament about it, I'd do 9/17 or something.
