is it to early ?

I got engaged on easter and we decided on an oct 2013 wedding. I thought it would be a good idea to start looking at places to figure out where we wanted to get married/have the reception. and we found it!  Well ever since then we have been basically planning everything and I was starting to feel overwhelmed, I had to sit back and I realized omg I have over a year to get everything planned what am I doing stressing about this. I even went and tried on dresses basically just to get an idea of what style I like best and fell in love with the most amazing dress I've ever seen! It has everything I've ever wanted on a dress, the price is even great. Would it be way to early to at least put a down payment on my dress but not order it right away or has anyone else done this before or is doing it? Is it too early to start talking to bakers and ordering stuff for the wedding?

My wedding is August 2013, and I just ordered my dress today! My opinion is to follow your gut instincts and do what is comfortable for you. I personally stress less when I have plenty of time to plan ahead and go at my own pace. I would suggest looking at your October 2013 board to get an idea of what other ladies in your group are doing.  Remember to breathe and enjoy the process!

</div><div>We were married a week and a half ago and we booked all of our big vendors in either April/May/June the year before.  Popular venues and vendors will book at least a year out, so if you have your heart set on something, I'd go ahead and make the call.  We had several vendors turn us down because they were already booked at a year out.  </div><div>
</div><div>Depending on the dress designer, dresses can take up to 6-9 months to come in, and then you need to allow time for alterations before you have any bridals done prior to your wedding. The word of caution here is that if you DO buy your dress now, you need to stop looking at dresses.  It's a lot easier said than done sometimes, but if you keep looking, you may think you regret your dress choice later on.  That being said, I bought my dress 11 months before our wedding.

I got engaged in March- we're getting married in June 2013 and I have nothing done but the place and date... if that gives you an idea about things. Most dresses take 7-9 months to come in so even with that, you don't have to rush into it. I would say the most important thing is to get the place and date booked, then you can kind of sit back and wait on the other things for a while. Of course there is no harm in booking early, but there's not a need to go nuts right now b/c you still have A LOT of time. HTH! :)

You do have time but use it to your advantage.  If you found your dream venue, book it.  Why wait... so that down the road someone else will book your date?  You can pretty much book all the major vendors now and then wait closer to the wedding to book/get the smaller things.  If you are set on what style/type of dress you want and you found the ONE, no reason not to put a deposit down.  I was not really all that into the dress shopping like I had thought I would be.  I knew what I wanted and what style I was looking for so after ONE bridal store visit and 6 dresses, I found my dress and have not looked at any others since.  Also your time allows for many luxuries (more time to save, more time to DIY and more time to relax).

Thank you everyone who responded, makes me realize that yes we have time but we should use it wisely! I tried on dresses and then continued to look (silly I know but no money was put down yet) and I can't get the thought of the first dress out of my mind so I know its THE ONE! I am going this friday to try it on again with some of my bridesmaids and my mom I am so excited to officially pick it out :-) Thanks ladies

I am getting married in October 2013 as well and just went to my first bridal salon this past weekend with my mom and found a dress I LOVE!! I was ready to just get it haha, but my mom is insisting we still look around. I am going to keep looking since I have time on my side, but I have a feeling I am going to end up with that first dress in the end. Good luck!!
