Hey ladies. I need some opinions because I'm in a bind.
So originally I was planning on getting an IUD (copper), my doc gave my prescription and referred my to the "in-house" gyno (she didn't feel comfortable putting it in because it's been forever since she put one in). I had one day off work that I could get it put in, in August, the appointment was booked and I got the IUD from the pharmacy. All of a sudden the gyno needs to cancel the appointment because he won't be in town on that day. I cannot take time off work for this so that's why it had to be done on that day and the gyno only works during my work hours so now I'm screwed.
I decided to go to a women's health clinic because they have evening and weekend appointments. I went through their screening process (family planning class, std/sti swabs, meeting with a nurse) and the entire time I was told that it was going to be easy-peasy. Now, today, after everything, I'm told they don't have enough availability to fit me in to have the IUD implanted. The only thing they can do is refer me to a gyno that they work closely with, who only works when I work and therefore it's a no-go. We leave for Ireland Nov 26th and I have one period left to make this happen or there will be no sex on the wedding night or honeymoon.
I have complex migraines so the pill is out of the question and would interfere with my seizure meds anyways. I'm not comfortable putting my faith in one form of contraception (condoms) so this IUD was absolutely necessary.
So, my question is: does anyone have experience with the Depo shot? I'm going to talk to my pharmacist tomorrow about interactions but I think it's probably the only other option I have. I feel like I'm about to lose it. I am so angry at that stupid clinic for stringing me along for two months and now all of a sudden this bomb is dropped. I booked an appointment with that gyno they referred me to and maybe I'll be able to make some kind of an arrangement with work but I would really rather keep my personal appointments outside of regular business hours and any walk in can give me a Depo shot.
I should also mention that the reason this has to be done outside of work hours is that I have taken so much time off for the neurology appointments I am not able to take anymore appointment days without bringing in a note explaining where I was and for how long I was there (supposedly there were past employees who abused the privellege of being able to take appointments during working hours and so now everyone only gets a few a year and beyond that proof of the appointment needs to be provided). I don't think it's any of my bosses business if I see a gyno.
Sorry this is so long.
