Christmas trip with...

..you guessed it..THE FUTURE IN-LAWS...(insert Jaws theme)
So..I'm excited to have a weekend away..Fi and I have not gone ANYWHERE in about 3 years. Last trip we took was a weekend at the beach..when we were barely 20. So...I get a whole weekend away from work..and away from the house. ..but this will be the first trip I've ever been on with his family. Both our families are super tight-knit..we do lots of family stuff together...so I'm not unfamililar with his family (I am considerably close to my  FIL's) but well..its one thing to go over to Granny's for the afternoon and a completely different thing to go to Uncle Mike's..in another state for 2 nights...with his parents. So yes...I guess I'm just a bit nervous. I've stayed at his parents' house over night before..once or twice..but I always get the bed and he sleeps on the couch (both families are super traditional)..so that also brings up the point. I have no idea where we're going to sleep. We're all supposed to stay at his Uncle's house but well I just don't know how thats supposed to work...I don't know how big his Uncle's house is but..there will be at least...8 or 9 people there with just us and his Uncle's family...so I guess no point to this post..just wanted to get it out of my head..I hope I have a good time..

Re: Christmas trip with...

  • If there are 8 or 9 extra people in the house, then Im thinking y'all will be in the living room on the floor with all other unmarrieds..
If I stayed at my mom's at Christmas, FI and I would be in the livingroom with my little sister and my 6 neices and nephews.. and Im 30. We always stay with my aunt ;) She's a little more liberal.

My best advice is just go with the flow. Ask him how stuff is supposed to go.

I've asked him several times about where we'll be staying. They have two houses bc his Uncle just got married...he says we'll be staying at the new house (where they actually live). Other than that..I think he's as in the dark as I am. I don't know if there will be much "living room sleeping with all the cousins"..most everyone is grown. The youngest is 15...or 16. I don't have a clue how many people are actually staying there...that's just us (5) and the people that live there (4)...the whole family (like 30+ people) are coming from out of state...as to how many are over-nighting...I have no idea. I doubt there will be any sleeping in the same bed. air mattress, room...vicinity etc. His Uncle would care less..but his parents..different story.
