Broken foot..suggestions for how to get down the aisle/ enjoy the night

So 5 days ago I broke my foot when a  sliding ladder came falling down on it and our wedding is in a little over a week...I thought maybe I could walk down the aisle with the assistance of my father but now I am starting to worry because my fiance has to pretty much carry me everywhere unless I am using my crutches...In regards to the crutches..I have fallen while using them twice now so I do not thouroughly trust them. My Mother in law suggested one of those knee roller things...the only problem is that I have a mermaid style dress with beading all over and I just don't think that would be comfortable..if even possible. A wheelchair might work for the rest of the night but like I said mermaid dress that is a little hard to sit ( I can't sit at a perfect 90 degree angle). Also if I am even able to attempt hobbling on my foot what kind of shoe could i wear..I have flats and they seem uneven with the boot.

All suggestions welcome..Thinking about decorating my boot in ribbon with one of the wedding colors. I want to be able to dance and have a good time....

  • Give it a few more days. I broke my foot a few years ago and had the same issues at first. After about 10 days I was able to walk normally with the boot and didn't need my crutches any longer.

I appreciate your input the doctor wasn't super clear he said I still needed crutches for a while but didn't give me a "time frame" and of course I don't want to do more damage to my foot I just want to make it down the aisle and after that I might just try to rock the wheelchair!

You are giving me hope that It will get better! Thank you!

  • If you need a wheelchair but bling it out. Streamers, glitter, the whole 9.

Did you decorate your boot? Or did you figure no one could see it anyway? What kind of shoes did you wear with your boot? what do you suggest?

Fully thing is my foot was broken for my college senior ball so I wore a ballgown with it. I didn't decorate it because no one could see it but I wore a wedge flip flop on my other foot it match the height of the boot.

  • Give it a little more time and I think u will be on to walk in the boot. I broke mine at Disney World a few years ago and was in terrible pain at first but within about 1012 days, I was up and moving alone in my lovely boot.

  • Sounds good...actually bought flats beforehand because I wanted to be comfortable and my flats match the other girls heels..but the wedge flip flop will probably best to keep me steady..might do what I saw another bride do and put her shoes at the gift table to atleast show what I was going to wear! Thank you both...I have more hope that I can walk down the aisle :)

You might have a bum pair of crutches. I had foot surgery a few years ago, and always felt so unstable on them. Finally, my sister asked me one to day to try them out. She had ankle issues and was used to using crutches. She looked at me and was all, "HOW DO YOU WALK WITH THESE THINGS ,THEY'RE SO UNSTABLE!!!???" Surprised

I Thought it was just me. I used her old crutches and then got around just fine. If the rubber on the bottoms is a little off it can throw everything out of whack.

[QUOTE]Bling a wheelchair or the crutches.  Life happens, and it willl be something to laugh about when you look at your wedding album in twenty years. Do you have a physical therapist? Talk to the PT folks.  They deal with issues like this all the time.

A physical therapist wasn't mentioned to me but my fiance's aunt is a physical therapist..and yeah i've been taking it pretty well i just want to maximize comfort but I have a feeling my dres will make that less than easy given it is a mermaid style and I can barely sit in it.

I like this suggestion and same goes for the crutches if you need to use them. Just paint them white (or one of the colours of your wedding) and bling it out.

  • Try to keep your foot elevated as much as possible to minimize the swelling.  I would think that you could use one crutch while walking down the aisle with whoever is escorting you.  You would have one hand free to hold your flowers, get the support from the crutch, and support on the other side from your escort.

I recently saw pictures on here(?) and the bride painted or purchased white crutches.  They blended in well and wasn't overly noticeable.

I didn't even think about my bouquet......so far the concept of one crutch doesn't seem likely..maybe I will progressively get better and be able to use one or none...

  • My son broke his foot Sunday night. Monday morning he called me (He is almost 19, lives with his father) sobbing in pain. He went to the dr, where he was x-ray'd, fracture confirmed. I took him crutches, and Tuesday he was put in a boot. Today - he is walking on it without the boot and without crutches (my son is 6 ft 285 - a lot of pressure on a foot). I did warn him to wear the boot, just for the record!

Hopefully a few more days of rest and healing and you can at least maneuver the aisle before you rest!

  • my SIL had emergency knee surgery about 7-10 out from her wedding.   By the time of the wedding she was able to get around with a cane.  Lucky for her , her late grandfather had a beautiful antique wood cane.  So she was able to use that and have a part of her grandfather with her.

[QUOTE]I think it would be really cute if your fiance carried you down the aisle.

He actually suggested this..but I kind of wanted the traditional father thing...hoping I can hobble enough at that point that I can lean on my dad. I might try walking with the boot today...

  • Anyone have any cute ideas for how to incorporate the broken foot into the reception...basically other ways to make it fun and silly? for example I saw one where all the bridesmaids walked down with crutches....also someone mentioned the wedge flip flops but someone else told me those can be slippery...thought about tennis hoes but tried them today and they are still too short..I would really like to stay away from heels...I feel like that could only make it worse! any other suggestions or are wedge flip flops not as I have heard?
