Your fiance should be helping, but it can be hard if he's just as clueless.

I don't agree with or do everything I read, but bridal magazines are a big help for me. Brides Magazine in particular comes out every month and always comes with a timeline regarding what you should be doing 12 months before, 6 months before, 2 weeks before, etc. That and TK magazine are FULL of ideas about dresses, flowers, how to interview a DJ, photographer, etc. There are also articles about etiquette and tough situations you may encounter.

Also, if you have any specific questions, everyone here is really creative and resourceful!

If you're curious about where to start, I suggest deciding (with your FI and maybe your family since they will have to travel) when and approximately where you want the wedding to be. You also need to know around how many guests you would like to invite. Then start looking at venues that fit your needs, and book the venue ASAP, since dates fill up fast. Don't book florists, officiants, photographers, or anything like that until you know WHERE the wedding will take place.

    Good luck!

  • Well start with a budget, guest list and venue. Then move onto attire, food, photographer, DJ, and officiant. Invites, decorations, guest book and other items.

Tier out what you need to get done start with bigger items and get your FI involved. Depending on when your wedding is you should start trying to find a venue about a year out, depending on popularity, along with photographers, florist etc.

Try hitting up your local board to ask questions about vendors etc and use the search bar on the bottom of the forums to see if your questions have already been answered :D

  • Step one - Set a budget.  How much money do you want to spend on your wedding?  Do you have the money now or will you need to save?

Step two - Guest list.  How many people will you be inviting?

Step three - Based on your budget and guest list you should be able to choose a venue, caterer, and officiant.  Other things that can come next are Dress, DJ, Photographer, and cake.  Things like flowers, invitations and decor come after that.

TheKnot has some budget tools that suggest how much percentage of your budget should be spent on what.  (Often food costs the most %-wise).

Remember that you don't need everything you see on TheKnot or in magazines.  Sure a limo would be cool and flowers are pretty, but you can get away with skipping them if they aren't in your budget.

    Good luck with your planning!
