working in a lab while wearing an e-ring

So I work in a lab and my job involves wearing tight rubber gloves all day long. I also change gloves probably 50 times a day. I was just wondering if there is any reason why this might be bad for my engagement ring...sometimes I worry that having the rubber constantly tugging on the ring will loosen the prongs or something...is this an irrational fear? I don't want to leave the house without it, but I also want to make sure that it's safe:)

Re: working in a lab while wearing an e-ring

  • I didn't change gloves quite that often, but I usually wore my e-ring in lab.  I took it off when I was working with really harsh chemicals though, in case anything got through the glove.

FI told me a lot of the women at the hospital wear their rings on a chain as necklace.
  • I work in a lab and am constantly changing gloves and have had no problems. I have had my ring for over a year and I have never ripped a glove, though I have found that I sometimes need to adjust the ring under the glove because it gets moved around when I put gloves on. My ring still looks at nice as the day I got it and I am pretty sure if your glove can loosen the prongs then you stones are not set very well.
  • I also work in a lab and have no problems.  I change gloves often, but I don't throw away fifty pairs of gloves in a day!  Yikes.

Anyway, I tend to rotate my ring towards my middle or pinky finger if I feel like it's too high.  I've never ripped a glove because of it.

Also - the gloves you are using should be protecting your skin and body from the chemicals you use in addition to the ring.  If you're worried about your body, then be worried about your ring second.  Otherwise, all should be well!
  • I am a nurse and my ring just gets in the way with taking off my gloves so i just put on a ring that my nana gave me.

  • I wear gloves sometimes at work too.  I more worry about my e-ring coming off, when I take off the gloves,  and me not noticing until later. That is my main concern about gloves.  It hasn't come off yet and I try to check every time I take them off.

  • Im always with patients and having to change my gloves and washing my hand.. My e ring is set high so it pokes up on the gloves.I take it off cause im worried about it punching gloves which is not good when you work with patient and body fluids if you know what i mean lol

  • You can always go to the store you bought the ring from and ask them what they think? Asking an expert might ease you mind.

    Just a thought. :)

  • I'm a chemistry teacher and I don't wear my ring when I'm handeling chemicals that require gloves.  The ring tears the gloves and I'm scared the prongs will break.

  • I work in a lab as well.  The majority of the time I don't wear my ring to work and FI won't be either.  I always have my ring with me though, when I'm at work its just now on a chain around my neck.I'm just one of the ones that has to have tight gloves so my ring rips them sometimes
  • I'm in the lab almost daily, and I always turn the stone around to the inside of my hand before I put gloves on. If it doesn't bother you to have it on backwards, that might be an easy way to prevent any unnecessary wear and tear but still wear it.
