Wedding quilt idea ...

I've been thinking about making a wedding quilt in the colors as the theme of my wedding (in May). I kinda like the idea of cutting the pieces as I need them for the quilt top, and having these loose pieces at our wedding reception for family/friends to write a memory of us on or a bit of advice or a well-wish.

Is this absurd?? lol Do you think guests will take the time to do this or not??

I dont know. My grandma did all the work. I'm not a quilter. I dont have a picture. We just moved so it's still packed. But she cut all the squares out and people wrote on them with fabric markers in our colors.

I think it's fun.

I think to make it successful you'd need to make it clear to people that the squares are for writing on, remind people to do it, tell them it's important to you - otherwise you might end up with just 10 squares done or something.  There's usually a lot going on at a wedding reception and people forget to do things like sign the guest book/write a wish.

My mom did this for my grandparents 40th anniversary, she sent the squares out ahead of time though.

My future sister-in-law is doing one for us as our guestbook. She did one for her son when he got married last year. It is beautiful. It was a large tree and the guests wrote their wishes on leaves. Our guests will be writing their wishes on fish shaped pieces of quilt (FI and I met on plentyoffish.com).
