Half Sister...

So on Monday my Fi and I went to the local dealership and bought me a new car (YAY) I posted below about it but after I left with my new car my Fi goes back to see about trading in his car and stuff and the dealer we were dealing with asks my Fi if he knows anything about Beth, who is his wife. My Fi says no and Steve our dealer guy says that she is my half sister.

Ok so I knew my dad had another daughter but we never talk to her or about her. I think she is like 10 years older then me. I personally would like to talk to her and get to know her and her family. I think she is friends with one of my dads brothers and his family, but idk if I should bring it up to my dad or not? And I don't think my mom really wants anything to do with her. I don't know why, and I don't know what happened. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do? If I should bring it up to my dad or just leave it alone? 
(and this is going to be a post and run cause I have to go to work)

    Maybe it's just me, but I'd be too curious not to ask or say something about it. Maybe just explain what happened to your dad, and ask him if he'd like to fill in the blanks on that situation.

    I want to know what happened and why she isn't a part of our lives, I just am not sure how to bring it up. I think I want to try and have a realationship with her I just wanted to talk to my dad about it first. I was thinking about maybe talking to my aunt who is friends with her on facebook and see if she knows anything? But then again I don't know who all knows, like if it was something my dad kept quiet and didn't tell anyone or what.

    The way I see it, she knows about you, so its not like you're going to shatter any lives by starting a relationship with her. As uncomfortable as it is for your parents, they can't just sweep the past under the rug. They can't expect you to pretend she doesn't exist because its hard for them.

    Its definitely a situation that needs to be handled delicately, but at the very least they owe you an explanation of what happened.
