how long are you having your photographer for?

I see that some offer up the whole day (12 hours)  I definitely wouldn't need that, I do want some pics taken before, but I am not sure how long to allow for that.  What is average, about 7 or 8 hours?

  • 10 hours. I didn't use all that time because I had an evening wedding.
  • I am also having an evening wedding.  The ceremony will either start at 5:00 or 5:30.

We had her and her assistant for four hours.  I thought that was overkill, quite frankly, but we had a small wedding.

They came at 5pm to take pics while getting ready.  Ceremony was at 6pm.  We had a cocktail hour/picture time until 8pm.  We then had dinner on the beach and they left about 9pm.

If we had had a full reception following our ceremony, they probably would have stayed until about 11pm... so, in total, that would be 6 hours.
  • For about 11.5 hours.  She was there when we were getting ready in the morning at about 10:30ish and then stayed at the reception until about 10.  Our contract was for "all day" coverage so we told her what time we wanted her there and then about what time we wanted her there at the reception until.
  • For about 2 hours I think. We had a small wedding and a very short ceremony. We didn't need her for the reception. I think 6 to 8 hours is normal. Depending on how long your ceremony and reception are.

  • We have our photographer for 10 hours. The ceremony is at 4 pm, but we're doing a first look and all of our wedding party and family pictures before the ceremony. She'll arrive around noon when we start getting dressed and do the first look and WP/family photos afterwards. She'll then come to the reception and get all of those moments as well as candids.

  • We have ours for 8 hours for the dressing part, first look, ceremony and reception. It's late in the evening so I was thinking over 8 would be excessive.

BTW Eorea - you have restored my love for a train...your dress is so pretty!

Our photographer is booked for seven hours - which is MORE than enough time. Our ceremony will be around 10:30/11:00 and our luncheon reception ends at 4:00pm.

  • 9 hours. But I am going to ask her to stay an extra hour.
  • 8 hours.  He's going to be at the church an hour and a half before the ceremony for photos with the groom & his groomsmen, then I'll get there half an hour later and have more photos with me and my bridesmaids.  The reception goes until 10:30 but he's only booked until 10, which is fine.  We're not doing a big exit from the reception.

  • We get ours for 9 hours and I just asked him to add a second shooter to our day.  Mainly because I was getting nervous about getting the "preparation" photos from me and FI since we will be in two different places and I didn't want our photographer to have to run around and miss stuff in the process.
  • About 10 hours. The wedding is at 4, but we're doing some pictures beforehand at 2, cocktail hour (pics of me and FI together, not doing a first look) and then he staying for all of the reception until 10pm. I also want him to come to the church a little early, because that is probably where we will be doing hair/makeup, so he can do the getting ready shots.

  • We have ours booked for the day but you have a late ceremony so it doesn't sound like you need that. I think 8 hours would be ok, if you decide you want to take pics before the ceremony.

  • Thank you, Melntaitt. :) I really loved my train.

  • Mine will be there for about 11 hours or so.

  • 8 hours. Starting around noon with getting reading pics, Formal shots at the church start at 1 or 2, ceremony starts at 4:30, and reception at 6 (dinner), but I want him to stay to capture our first dance and father/daughter dance, so I booked him for 8 hours.

  • Mine is booked for 8 hours and up to 4 locations, not sure when our reception is going to start but I really don't think it is necesary for them to stay the whole time during the reception.  I really wnt formal pics of everyone and everything and some fun one but mainly formal.  I also have two close friends who are very very talented with cameras who will be able to fill in where the photographer won't be
