Knottie GTG's

Im just curious as to what the purpose of this is?  Im really not trying to be rude or offend anyone at all, but with all of this planing, who has time for a get together with other brides?  Maybe I am just not the kind of person that likes these "sorority" type of get togethers to talk about gowns and cakes and photographers....Im already going crazy trying to figure out my own so I dont really want to add to my stress by listening to another brides dilemnas.  Also, how do most of you feel about trash the dress?  Personally, I would never do that to the most gorgeous gown I will ever wear in my life.  I dont see the point in rolling around in mud or playing in water just to trash the dress.

Any thoughts on this???

Re: Knottie GTG's

  • I think most of the GTGs are organized and attended by people who have become friends on here and I would venture to guess that there's probably not a lot of wedding talk. It's a nice way to meet new people in your area and become friends IRL.

Not all TTD sessions include actually maul the dress either. Some just involve locations that you would never take your dress until after your wedding, like a forest or beach, where it can get damaged or stained. I personally wouldn't want to completely trash my dress, but to some people it doesn't matter, they bought it already and can't imagine selling or preserving it.

  • Ditto waltzingmatilda. There are a lot of ladies that are friends outside of these boards. The GTG's are a great way to meet more people.

As far as TTD goes, it doesn't necessarily have to involve mud. It could be in the water or walking down a city street. If the dress is cleaned promptly, a lot of the stains and soil can come out. I am not a fan of TTD either, I simply had my wedding dress cleaned and preserved.
  • I've been to GTGs and like Matilda said, it was because I've interacted with people on these boards and wanted to meet them IRL. Two of the GTGs even involved *gasp* people who weren't engaged yet. Or people who were married already.

I'd be interested in doing TTD, but not ruining the dress - maybe just doing some beach pics.

  • I do agree with everyone else. I don't think anyone is so stuck in planning their wedding that they can't possibly meet up and hang out. And I don't think they're all gushing about photographers, a lot of them are meeting people they have developed friendships with, or people they could in the future.

As for trash the dress, depending on when you do it, a lot of people use a different dress. Not the "most beautiful dress you'll ever wear." I personally love the idea, though I probably wont' do it. It's out of the box, different, and looks like a whole lot of fun! A lot of people do it in the weeks prior to the wedding or a few days after. Also, not everyone cares about the most beautiful dress, etc, so they might just buy something that flatters them at David's Bridal for 99 bucks and it would be okay to get it dirty the next day :)

  • We did a TTD session, but my dress was far from ruined.  I had some dirt on the hem, but nothing that the dry cleaners couldn't get out.  We went out into the desert and just had fun.  I had no desire to roll around in the mud or go into the ocean, but my TTD shots are my absolute favorites from the wedding.

  • It would be awesome meeting the other people on here and share ideas and wedding plans :o)
