Cake Flavors?

I'm having a DW and have no idea what kind of cake to have. My parents have tried the chef's food and say it's great but there is no way for me to taste the cake before the wedding. I've asked him for suggestions but he just keeps telling me "I can do whatever you want". I don't know what I want.

So.. What kind of cake did you have/ are you having? I need some inspiration.
TIA!

  • We had red velvet, strawberry, and marble.

  • We had different flavors for each layer.  They were:  Almond cake with Bailey's filling, lemon cake with raspberry filling, white cake with Gran Marnier filling, and chocolate cake with cookies 'n' cream filling.  The almond and Bailey's was my favorite.  The chocolate and cookies was probably the most popular.
  • I love the liquor fillings I would have never thought of that.
  • Have your parent's tried the cake?  Maybe they have some ideas.

  • No, for some odd reason he gave them flan when they did the tasting. We will not be having flan!
  • The liquor was the best, IMHO.  But we had kids, so there had to be "virgin" cakes.

The other ones that I love are flavors of yummy desserts, like creme brulee or tiramisu.  What's your favorite dessert?

If they are saying they can do anything, I'd start looking at local bakeries or websites to get some ideas.  Will they set up a tasting with your parents?
  • He would most likely do another tasting of the cakes for my parents but it's in Costa Rica so I don't know if they'll be back before the wedding.

I was thinking of trying out local bakeries to get an idea of what I like, but I can see myself getting carried away with that and gaining 15 lbs in the process. :) I'll have to share.
  • We had 3 flavors; red velvet with cream cheese filling, almond cake with raspberry whipped, and chocolate cake with chocolate mousse.

  • My sister did table cakes, so she had about a dozen different flavors.  The head table cake was chocolate with a mint filling, really good.  We're having cookies instead of cake, so I'm no help there; we're getting a birthday cake for the rehearsal dinner (three of our attendants have birthdays within two days of the wedding), but we haven't ordered it yet.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. • we are having white cake with cannoli filling, lemon cake with strawberry, lemon with lemon, and white with strawberry.
  • We are having three flavors... Our first is a chocolate cake with a peanut butter ganache filling (tastes so wonderful!), the next is a strawberry cake with a fresh strawberry jam/fruit filling (i don't know how else to describe it) and the third is a butter pound cake with a lemon filling.
  • We kept it simple: white cake with chocolate mousse filling. It went over real well with our guests.

  • I'm torn between red velvet and almond.
  • We had four:
    1.  White cake (hint of almond flavoring) with chocolate mousse
    2.  Lemon with raspberry filling
    3.  Chocolate with cherry filling
    4.  Chocolate with orange creamsicle mousse (DH's choice)

I didn't think I'd like the 4th one, but it was amazing!  I would have loved the liquor mousses but our bakery didn't have those.

  • Ours was half chocolate with raspberry filling, and half carrot cake.  With cream cheese frosting all over.  It was delicious.

  • We're doing sheet cakes.  One German Chocolate, one Red Velvet and one White.  There could possibly be a 4th and that would either be lemon or carrot.
  • We had one flavor in each tier. Our bottom tier was Oreo cookie (white cake with Oreos baked in), the middle was lemon, and the top was triple chocolate with a mocha filling. The groomscake was mint Oreo because that's DH favorite ice cream cake flavor (and there was no way to do ice cream cake).

  • We're keeping it simple. 3 tiers, two layers each tier, all buttercream frosting.
Bottom tier: chocolate layer on bottom, marble on top.
Middle tier: vanilla layer on bottom, marble on top.
Top tier: all marble (I'm pretty sure, anyway. It's either that or one of the other two.)

FI LOVES vanilla, and I love chocolate, so we swirled [:

  • We're simple: chocolate, vanilla, and a raspberry walnut. But I had a friend who requested confetti cake...and her baker made it happen! You really can have WHATEVER YOU WANT!!
  • I tell everyone that I'm only getting married for the cake because I'm so excited about the cake!  I've literally had it picked out since before I met my FI. Our cake is almond sour cream with peach and passion fruit filling and buttercream frosting.  The groom's cake is going to be chocolate ganache.  Just think about the best cake you've ever had and ask the chef to do that.

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
