men's formal daytime attire

I am still in the early stages of planning and choosing a date/time for the wedding, so this is partly just something I am curious about... I have heard that tuxedos are generally only worn after 6:00 in the evening and that before then, a morning coat or cutaway coat is more appropriate.  However, I don't think I have ever actually seen anyone wear a morning coat - though I like the look from the pictures I've seen.  I am thinking about having a fairly formal late afternoon ceremony with a dinner reception (church ceremony and ballroom reception) and am wondering if this would be the appropriate attire for my fiance and the groomsmen.  Has anyone seen this kind of dress in a wedding?  I'm curious how often this is done.  Thanks!

  • Anything goes...that's just the way it is.  It's your wedding and you can do whatever you choose, I don't think the time of ceremony and whatnot really matters with what kind of formals/casual wear is worn for the men.
