It's crazy, right?

So I'm getting married tentatively next October (maybe October 2012, even) and I found amazing bridesmaid dresses in a gorgeous print (it's both fall and summer colors! perrrfect for an October wedding where we want more than just the typical orange and brown) that are in all my girls' sizes (even a 16) on one of those designer sale sites that have deep discounts on super high quality brands. But... I haven't even asked all of the girls!!! Now, these aren't anyone that would ever change or some flighty choices - my 2 closest and oldest gal pals that i was a bridesmaid for, my cousin and my future sister-in-law (my brother's fiancee). I haven't asked her or one of my former bride-friends yet mostly because I want to do it in person and not have it seem like some flimsy request. so! i've turned to trusty google for the dresses for maybe a future buy, but they are nowhere to be found, not even on the designer's website. :[ So this is seeming to be my only chance to get these beautiful dresses at a great price ($130 a dress? yes, please!).

So I'm looking for an affirmation - should I just say goodbye to these dresses or buy them super prematurely? haha thanks!

  • It's way too early, especially since you don't have a date yet. Even if your colors don't change, it would be nice to get feedback from the girls on the dress since they'll be the ones wearing it. Also, with it SO far away, even if your relationships don't change, it's highly possible that someone will gain or lose a bunch of weight between now and then, or be pregnant or just have had a child.

  • You should definitely refrain from asking any of your bridal party until a year ahead of time at the very earliest.

Trends, your personal tastes, and even the dress sizes your girls need could change drastically between now and then. Enjoy being engaged right now, and wait to decide on bridal party attire until much, much closer to your wedding date.

You could save a picture of the dresses you love, and if, by some chance, you still want to go with that look when the time comes to shop, you'll remember what they looked like, and can find something similar.

  • Yeah, I thought as much. One is pregnant right now actually and the good thing about these dresses is that they're empire waisted and are pretty forgiving in that respect. I'll just make note of it and try contacting the designer about future possibilities. :] thanks for confirming my decision!
  • glad you decided not to get the dresses. if it makes you feel better a friend of mine just got her BM dresses at jcrew on sale for $50 each and they are gorgeous. there will be lots of other sales.
  • Definitely wait.
  • You don't even have an actual date set yet.  You haven't asked your BM.  And how do you know they will be that same size in a year or two?
