dyeing a veil?

I am wearing my mother's vintage wedding dress and I could not find a veil to match. So I bought a lace veil since the dress is mostly lace. I've read onlne about dyeing the veil with tea bags. Anybody try this? Hoping this is gonna work or I might be skipping out on a veil.

Re: dyeing a veil?

  • I wouldnt do it... or take it and get it done professionally
  • You should take the dress and the veil to a local shop that does alterations of wedding dresses and ask them what they think could be done.

  • I am digging up an old thread here, but @Elaina1012, what did you end up doing with your veil? I recently got a deal on a nice secondhand veil, only to find out it is too bright of a white. My dress is considered ivory but a very white ivory. The store I was looking in only had ivory or white but now I hear there is a color out there called diamond white and that is probably what I needed. Anyways, I might try this tea dyeing thing and would love to hear if anyone has done it.

Tea dying works great - on cotton.  Veils are made of nylon, which cannot be dyed. What color do you need?  Your veil doesn't need to exactly match.  It is sheer, and a slight color difference won't be obvious.
