Question on color?

Just a quick one!

Our main colors are purple and green.
The guys are wearing dark brown jackets and vests with khaki colored pants. (per FI's request). He'd like bow ties as well. Would it be okay if he did a green bow tie and the GMs did purple? Or should they all be the same color? Is there an etiquette to it or is it just a matter of preference?

Just wondering. Thanks!

Re: Question on color?

  • I think it would be fine to have your FI in a different color tie than the GM.  My FI and his GM are wearing the same tie since it has a fun print to it and is the only color in their outfits, but at most weddings I've been to the groom has been in a different color tie than the GM.  I think it's a matter of preference!

I think bowties look ridiculous on 99% of men.  Some pull it off, most don't and just end up looking like goofballs, especially if they're not in tuxes.  I also think you have a lot of color going on...dark brown, khaki, green and purple?  And a white shirt, I assume?

<div>Actually, 2/5 own multiple bow ties. The other 3 have worn them in the past of their own accord, so I don't think it'll be a problem. They're all goofballs either way, in a good way. :)</div><div>
</div><div>The browns and a white shirt are neutral. I'm not terribly concerned about those together. But having the bow ties the same color could help. I see your point.</div>
  • My fiance is wearing a totally different color suit than everyone else. It is perfectly OK for your fiance to wear a different color tie. I think it would be quite cute :)

  • I'd say go for it so he stands out. My FI is wearing a bow tie while all of his Groomsman are wearing regular neck ties.
  • It's nice to hear everyone's opinions! I appreciate you all sharing with me. :)
  • My partner wore bright apple green and the other folks wore a wine/purple color that matched the BMs. I think it looked great.
