What veil length is best for a low back dress?! help!! :)

Hi fellow brides! I'm trying to figure out what the best length would be for my veil. I'll be wearing a fitted lace low-back dress, so I'm not sure what type of veil would complement the low back style. I don't know that I really want a birdcage veil or anything too short, but I also don't want anything too long because my ceremony will be outside. I'm pretty much debating between elbow length and fingertip length. Any recommendations?

Also, do you all think I should do an updo with that style of dress? I'm debating between an updo or half-up half-down style.

Here's a picture of my dress from the back just so you can see. :)  And don't worry, I won't have a bra strap hanging out on the big day.  Lol.

Thanks!!!

  • My dress V's in the back with buttons going down and I will not be wearing a veil. Part of this is because I'm a second time bride so I dont feel appropriate doing a veil even though I didnt have a wedding the first time. The other part is I dont want to cover the back of my dres. I also have super long hair so we're going to twist it up and then curl it so it goes down the top part of the back opening of my dress. He loves my hair so I'm going to make it visible.

  • Thanks, B!  I've considered doing without a veil myself, but I think I'd prefer to have one for the ceremony and take it off for the reception.  I've been leaning toward updos versus the half-up style, but I'm still torn!  Here are a couple hairstyles I've liked:

  • Have you considered one of the small veils that just covers your forehead/eyes and pins into the front of your hair? I tried one on yesturday and I liked the look just not for me. I love these hair ideas though :). I'll start looking into that in a few months. I've already got an idea of what I want done.

  • I used to love the smaller veils, but the lady at the bridal salon put one on me when I tried on my dress, and it looked horrible on me for some reason!  Haha.  So I'm not sure about those.  :(  Thanks for the suggestion, though.  Your hair idea sounds really pretty, too!!!
  • My thought is that anything long enough to cover the entire open backed part of your dress will work. Just don't get something that leaves an inch or two of skin showing...KWIM?  I think fingertip length would be your safest bet.

By the way, GORGEOUS dress and gorgeous figure in it.
  • I agree with Nola, it should be long enough to cover the whole open part of the back.  So probably fingertip.

You look GORGEOUS in that dress!

  • I third the above - cover the whole thing, or none of it.. no in between.

I love the back of my dress, so I did a single tier veil (no blusher either) so that it is super sheer to see through and it doesn't really hide anything at all!

You look amazing in that dress. And I agree, cover all of it or none of it, either way you will look beautiful!!

  • Awww, thanks ladies!! I appreciate the compliments. :)  I LOVE my dress, especially the back, so I don't want to hide it too much, but I would love to have a veil for the ceremony!

Thank you for all of your comments and tips.  I think that sounds like the best idea to cover it all up or not at all.  I was concerned about that looking weird with the elbow length.  I think I'll go with the single tier fingertip length.

Thanks again!!! :)  You've all been very helpful.

  •  would probably do a birdcage. I would hate to cover the back of the gorgeous gown.

  • I know I'm a year late to this post, but I just stumbled upon it, as I am having the same issue!  Danylle, what did you decide to do?  Would you be willing to share a picture?  The back of my dress is similar to yours, and I have been having the veil vs. no veil debate with myself.  Just curious as to how it worked out for you!?
