Full Figured Bridesmaids

So we FINALLY picked out bridesmaid dresses that everyone liked...but when they came in the mail my larger bridesmaids couldn't fit their breasts into the tiny spaces provided by the dress. We ordered the dress from JCrew and they don't come in bigger sizes. The dress zips all the way up and fits just fine everwhere else but their breasts look like they are just waiting to pop out...basically all it is covering is their nipples. WHAT DO I DO? All the other girls have purchased their dresses!!! Is there a strapless bra that minimizes???  Should I change my decision on dresses??? HELP!!!!

Yikes! Sorry you're having to deal with this. I do not know of a strapless bra that minimizes, and it sounds like that might not do you much good anyway. Thankfully J. Crew has a good return policy on everything but sale items. I would double check to make sure everyone's dresses are returnable, and start looking for another dress.

Alternatively, would putting the fuller figured ladies in a different style dress help? It's just a thought. If you have a J. Crew near you with sample dresses (I know they are few and far between), it wouldn't hurt to see if your girls would fit better in a dress with a different neckline. Which dress is everyone wearing right now?

Typically strapless bras aren't the most comfortable thing in the world for larger chested girls, and I would be annoyed if you asked me to squish my large chest into a tight minimizing bra all day.

Obviously it is covering more than just their nips. You can try taking the dresses to a seamstress to see if she can add any modesty panels in it to help cover up their chests or if there could be any other alterations she could do to make them more appropriate.

If all the other girls have purchased their dresses, you can either have them all reurn them and pick out new dresses that you're able to try on to make sure they cover what you want covered,  or let the girls who need different dresses pick a new dress.

I agree - I had a similiar problem with my first choice because a couple of my ladies are busty.  Finding a different style (straps? halter?) in the same color would solve this problem.

I vote returning the dresses for the ones with the larger chest and having them in seperate style...J Crew has several cute styles that are modest...and you should be able to pick the same color in a seperate style. The varying styles of dresses will look great, especially since everyone will look good in what is best fitting for their body type.

You could even ask the other girls(who's dresses do fit) if they would like to exchange their dresses for an alternative style of their choice too. This way nobody will feel out of place and everyone will feel comfy! You could select 3-4 styles for everyone to choose from. Good luck!

It was the Taryn Gown (short length) and funny enough the bustier bridesmaid picked it out. I think I'm going to start looking again and see if I can find a dress with straps...maybe just have the two bigger girls in a similar dress with straps. I still have two months and would rather just have the hassel of returning and reordering than uncomfortable bridesmaids.

I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls!

Yeah, the Taryn dress does look a little bare. I'd see if you could get the girls to try on the twist-tank dress. It seems to have a lot more coverage, and comes in the same silk chiffon that the Taryn does. The Sophia dress does as well, but I know for a fact that it comes to a rather deep V in the front, and your girls might or might not be comfortable with it.

I'm thinking that you should send them all back- J Crew seems to be more "junior sized" for those with tiny busts, unfortunately.



Also, I'd be one offended fatty if all the heavier girls had to wear "special" different dresses. Maybe I'm being sensitive because of being heavier with big boobs.

I'm having my full figured bridesmaid dresses in different dresses also.  They are more comfortable and I'm happy with the results.

seriously, i would return the dresses and get something that looks classy on everyone.  i was a bridesmaid in a wedding a couple years ago for a good friend of mine, and she had her heart on all us girls wearing halter dresses with a ribbon under the bust.  at a 34DD, i was the SMALLEST bridesmaid.  we all looked like hookers.  you can't have large breasts sectioned off like that because  they just spill out the top.  and with the halter, cleavage was a huge (no pun intended!) issue.  her pastor was very conservative and we were all worried we'd show up on her wedding day and he'd tell us to wear something else.  it was super embarassing.  a couple of the really large girls had a modesty strip sewn into the bottom part of the halter to attempt to cover some cleavage, but i opted against doing it because the material puckered and wasn't quite the same color as the dress and actually looked worse.  it was not a fun day.  i felt uncomfortable and over exposed.  i would NEVER wear a dress like that on any other occasion.

full figured girls want to look and feel sexy but it's really tough if your boobs are bulging out.  so yeah - start over from scratch on these dresses.  for me, i really like strapless gowns where the bodice doesn't section off the boobs.  you can get either a straight across or sweetheart neckline and with adequate support, still feel covered and sexy.  you don't want your girls to look like a bunch of skanks lined up behind you on your wedding day... that's definitely not what you want people to remember!

Yes.  This.  before you go sending the dresses back to J.Crew, see if there is something that can be done about it.  Ask a seamstress.  If everyone likes the dress and they fit fine, then just tweak it - don't scrap it completely.

I would ask a seamstress...Maybe see if you can get one extra dress just for the fabric needed to fit the girls if the dress fits everywhere else?  That is a nice dress, and one that they can wear again, if you can get it to work.  Good luck!

Thanks so much for your help and opinions. Luckily the problem with the dress was a small girdle type thing built into the dress. It was only stitched on one end and thus easily removable with a seam ripper. The girls were able to put on their normal strapless bra and it worked sooooo much better. Also a seamstress is adding extra material to the top to help conceal. Both of my bridesmaids are happy and comfortable. I really appreciate the responses!
