Reception attire?

Am I supposed to wear my wedding dress tot he reception or a seperate dress?

Re: Reception attire?

  • Its your own preference. Personally, I hate the idea of reception gowns.

I'm completely in love with my wedding gown so I'll be sure to wear it as long as I possibly can!

I think the majority of brides wear their wedding dress to the reception.  It's probably the most expensive and beautiful dress you'll ever own, so why would you want to wear it for just the ceremony and then change out of it?  I loved my dress and considering the money I spent on it, I couldn't imagine just wearing it for a 20 minute ceremony and then putting on something else.

I'm baffled at the women who get two dresses.  I'm getting two pairs of shoes...but that's costing a whopping $30 and I'll wear both again in the future.

<div>This! I always wondered why brides want 2 dresses, when you're wedding dress is supposed to be your "dream dress". Wear it while you still can, odds are, you will never wear that dress again...</div>

You are going to spend hundreds...or even, thousands on the dress, wear ONE.....especially when wearing it to ONLY the ceremony means you wear it for less than hour which just seems wasteful to me

I personally think any bride who wears two is just showing off....Perhaps they should just wear one and donate the money to some poor bride who has to scrape buy to even buy one.....JMO.

I hate this trend..really hate it. It just seem gluttonous to me
  • Yup... agree with PPs.

The only thing I can understand is buying like an after-party, getaway outfit.  Something to party in/depart in after your reception.

But I fully plan on wearing my dress as long as I can.  And I'll probably want to wear it around my house on random days after ;)

I had planned to wear my ballgown the entire night, but I brought a short white dress that I planned to change into at the end of the night before leaving for the hotel, so that my parents could take the big dress back home. But I ended up being entirely too hot in it (it was a very hot and humid day), and people kept stepping and slipping on it on the dance floor (even though it didn't have a train) so I said eff it about an hour after dinner. So I changed out of my wedding dress into the other dress (which was a white lace dress I already owned - I did not buy it specifically for the reception). I am so glad I had brought that as a back-up. It wasn't new or sparkly, many people had seen it on me before, but I didn't care. I was comfortable and having a blast.

Depending on what your dress is like and what time of year you're having the wedding, I'd suggest arranging a "getaway outfit" to have as a backup in case you start getting uncomfortable in the wedding dress later in the evening.
  • I agree with PP, I was pretty upset to take the dress off at the very end of the night, I can't IMAGINE giving up my time in the dress after only an hour or so. And I loved being the only person on the dance floor in a long dress. It was FUN.
  • I'd love to wear my gown again if I could fit into it. Lol.

  • Ditto PP. I really don't understand why brides need 2 dresses. You spend so much time and money on the right one, why would you want to take it off the one time you get to wear it?

  • I didn't.  I only changed when it was time to leave and I changed into a blouse and skirt I already owned.
