Matching Flower Girl dress?

My dress is ivory; does the flower girl's dress need to be ivory too, or could I get away with letting her have a white dress? My color theme was originally black and white, until I purchased an ivory dress. Can I still stick with everything else black and white, even if I'm different in ivory?

Re: Matching Flower Girl dress?

  • Nobody will notice.  Get white for her if you like the dress. The difference between white and ivory is pretty negligible.  You have to be up close and really looking for it to tell the difference.

  • I think it's good that your dress is slightly "off white" because you are the bride, and the bride is supposed to stand out a bit.  It's not really a big difference so it won't look weird, but it's different enough to give you the spotlight.

  • Nobody will notice either way. To your average person (who's not surrounded by wedding stuff all the time), white is white is white. Whether it's ivory, diamond white, ecru, eggshell, whatever.

  • LOL @ PP. Good answer. I had the same issue and my dress is ivory - but it photographs so white (Maggie Sottero) that I ended up getting the FGs white at Davids because their ivory was much deeper and more yellow.I think white/ivory is fine. Good luck!
  • I would buy white for her, especially if you are wanting a black and white theme. Once you start adding other ivory details, FG dress, men's shirts, etc. it's hard to stop. I would stick with white for everything else.
  • Compare your dress or an exact swatch with the FG dress. My dress is what I guess is considered "dark" ivory, and the difference between it and a bright white dress would be very noticeable. As a PP said, there are about a million shades of "white" and "ivory" so see what you think about the difference. If you are the kind of person who would be bothered by a big difference in color, you might want to pick something else for the FG. If not, or if the difference is negligible, than you are good!
  • like Brie2010, I too can think of going with the dress that she likes and you too.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Vendor, Aerin. All of her other posts are about a FG dress vendor.
