No dresses for the chesty bride...

I called David's Bridal and several other local bridal shops to see what the size charts look like. I was shocked that I was a size 32 on top and a 14 or 16 on bottom. I have always been really chesty but size 32 isn't even carried at any of the places or available for special order. The highest size they had was a 30. I really don't have it in my budget for a custom dress either. I'm just so sad right now and I'm trying to think desperately of how to find a dress for my wedding.

Re: No dresses for the chesty bride...

  • Is it possible they can let out the dress, on the top if you got a size 30? I was told that a person could gain weight for up to 2-3 dress sizes and still have their dress fit, by letting it out...and this was a professional place that knew what they were doing (and was told the same at another place.) Although this was for my bridesmaid's dress, she was worried about weight gain...maybe its different for bridal dresses? But I would check around and see what they say?
  • I was told some dresses can be made with larger cup sizes. Maybe you should ask if this is possible.
  • Interesting, because every dress I tried on at David's fit in the stomach but was HUGE in the boobs. Like I'm an A and the dresses were cut for someone with my waste but a C cup on top.Sorry you're having a tough time with this. Good luck.

  • What about separates? I know David's Bridal has (or had, at least, when my friend was getting married 2 years ago) some of their bridesmaids dresses in separates. Lots of bridesmaids options come like that, actually. My thought with Davids is: if you can get separates, and if your budget allows, you'll be able to get a more custom fit by buying 2 dresses, one in each size, and then either selling the other half (the bigger bottom and the smaller top) as separate pieces. Really, that would be a lot less expensive, I'd think, than a custom-made dress. Also check out other places! A lot of designers offer separates for bridesmaids options, and I've seen a few weddings lately wherein the bridesmaids are in white, either in addition to or instead of the bride, and so I think you might have some luck there! Good luck!!
  • I am really chesty myself and the one fitting I did the lady told me I definately had to have a corset back because at that time I was smaller on the bottom than the top. I know how you feel though I had to have my prom dress in a 14 then they altered the waist and rest of it to like a 7, oh how I wish I was still that small!
  • I think you should be able to let out a dress some and then with a corset back that leaves a lot of room to play so I would think that might help you a lot. I am also large chested so I understand the frustration GL
  • If you dont mind me asking, what cup size are you? I am a 36D and had no problem fitting into most dresses in the appropriate size, especially the corset backed ones. I will have to get mine taken in a bit in the waist, but the corset back really allows for extra room where you need it!
  • I really can't wear a strapless style because they do not make a strapless 36FFF bra that works. I already have to compromise just to not have to special order a bra from somewhere.
  • I can sympathize with that...If you can handle ordering a bra online you might try bravissimo.com  They are a company based out of the UK who sell bras and clothing for women from DD up to a K cup size, I think. I ordered my last swim suit from them, and it fit true to size. They have some long line bras and corsets which are a bit pricey, but nice looking. I almost ordered one from them, but David's ended up having my size.
