veil rules

what are the rules you have to follow in order to find a veil that is the best match with your gown? I have a lot of beading on my gown and it has a dropped waist. so, does the veil have to end below the designs? Would it be a no no if te end landed in the middle? also, since i have a lot of beading would it matter if i had a 1 or 2 teir veil? I'm sorry if these are stupid questions!

Re: veil rules

  • There are no rules.Pick a veil that looks good with your dress.  It helps to take pictures.  Simple.

  • There really aren't any 'rules' for veils. Go to your shop, try on your dress and try as many different veils as you want. Pick what looks best on and what fits your style best. My dress was a dropped waist with lots of beading on the bodice and some beading down the back and train. I wore a cut-edge cathedral drop veil for my ceremony and an elbow-length bead-edged veil for my reception -- it came to just the length of the bottom of the drop waist and I loved it. Like I said, just try on a bunch of different veils with your dress and pick what works best for you. :)

  • You can wear whatever you like... post a picture of your gown and we can help you decide what type of veil would work best.

  • Just from your description, I'd probably either have the veil end above or below the design, not in the middle. Obviously the more tiers you have, the more the design will be hidden so if that's a big deal to you, choose fewer tiers. But like I said, I'd have to see a picture to actually form an opinion.

  • I have the same issue! I have a dropped waist dress, with beading on top and below the bodice. Unfortunately, when I went to the store, my dress was full of pins and I could not try it on with any dresses. The sales woman kept encouraging me to buy something sheer and simple though. She also said that something that was either above or below the beading at the dropped waist.~Julie
  • There are hard and fast no rules really.  The only rule I ran across was to avoid having your veil and dress compete with one another.Ex 1: if you have a dress with a really heavily beaded bodice and lots of embroidery, you probably want your shrug not to have any detail work that will obscure the bodice.  Ex2: if you have a very simple dress with little or no embellishment a more detailed veil can add a "finishing" look to it.  Ex3: if you have a train that has a lot of embellishment you probably don't want detail work on your veil to obscure that. Most of it is really common sense and a matter of what you want to show off more, the veil or your dress. With me, I originally wanted a dress with cathedral length train.  The one dress I was smitten with had a chapel train so I ordered a cathedral length veil with similar embroidery at the very last foot towards the end of the veil so that it would act like an train extension.Go with what you like though sometimes stuff that is counter intuitive can go together.  Better to figure out what works for you by trial and error.
  • I agree with everyone in that you should try on different veils with your dress to see. My gown is lace applique with beading over the entire dress and a chapel length train. The veil I chose is chapel length and has beading and embroidery all along the edge. I honestly thought I would get a simple 1 layer chapel length or a drop veil. When the consultant pulled this veil out I thought no way, but the stuff on the veil mimics my gown and I totally love it! My gown has a defined "waist" with lace so some of the veils that were shorter actually seemed to cut the line of it. So....after all my rambling.....go and try on a bunch of stuff and chose the one that you love! Good luck and have fun!! :-)
