Removing Tags

Has anyone else been to a bridal shop that removes the tags from all of the gowns?  I was just at a place last week that removed all of the tags and won't tell me even the designer much less the style of the dress I like.  It makes me a little nervous-like they're going to substitute a knock off or something.

Re: Removing Tags

  • They don't remove the tags from the dress you buy, just from the samples as a way to try and pressure you to buy from them because you'll never ever be able to find the dress online. ::Rolls eyes:: 90% of the time if you come to this board with a decent description and a list of the designers the store carries, the girls here will find it for you.
  • Removing tags is illegal, in violation of various federal laws.  Don't do business with any shop that does that.  It means they don't want you to be able to go anywhere else, and once they've trapped you, who knows what else they're willing to do?  If you come across another place that does that, let them know that you know what they're doing is illegal, and if they don't tell you who the designer is, you'll report them to the appropriate agencies.  They'll shape up real quick and give you the information you're legally entitled to.

  • I didn't know that was illegal! I have seen a couple of stores do that! Good to know!

  • Yup, it's illegal.  Tell them you're going to report them to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and they should change their mind real quick.

  • It's not illegal to remove the designer's tags.  It's illegal to remove care labels and the label that tells what the gown is made of.
  • Actually it is very much illegal unless the store replaces the tags they pull off with their own house brand.  Any shop that doesn't do that is in FTC violation and you are well within your rights as a consumer to report them.If you click on my bio I have hyperlinks to all the information you need.  Including where to file a complaint if you encounter a salon that does this.
